Hidden in the 95 pages of Georgia's suppression bill...

Hidden in the 95 pages of #Georgia’s #SB202 is a little provision that allows any voter in the state to challenge any other voter and their right to vote in the state — in unlimited numbers.

In 2020, when True the Vote, a Texas group founded by Tea Party crusader Catherine Engelbrecht, challenged the right of 364,541 Georgians to cast ballots, county elections boards rejected the challenges, noting that the numbers were too huge to be credible.

But, under the new law, the State Board of Elections can remove a county board if it doesn’t — in the State’s opinion — rule properly on these challenges.
And who will make up the State Board?

The new law hands over the board to the GOP leaders of the Legislature plus a representative of Republican Governor Brian Kemp, infamous for his own manipulations of the voter rolls which gave him the gubernatorial race against Stacey Abrams.

1. Go en masse and challenge every single vote in heavily Republican precincts.

That will make them regret it.

2. Except it goes to the Board which is made up of GQPers and a rep of the Gov.

So it will go nowhere.

Greg Palast mentioned this on Thom's show.

16. They will probably just wholesale reject

any and all challenges by such organizations.

So, literally, no votes of not-white people will be counted.

7. 1. It would not make them regret it, it would further their goal

to sow chaos and steal elections.

2. You don't fight democracy destruction with democracy destruction.

We can't all be destroyers of elections. Someone has to be the good guys. Fortunately, protecting democracy comes naturally to liberal Democrats.

11. They're committed to stealing elections anyway. At least make them feel some real pain from it.

Throw their entire voting system into total chaos if they insist on going this route. I'm completely in favor of it.

14. What pain? They WANT chaos. The system is keeping them

from succeeding, and that's why they're constantly working to break it and smash through.

Think of the principles and processes of democracy as a very strong fort that we hold and they must take from us to take over. Copying their chaos-creating undermining and battering tactics would be like having our army abandon its position of strength to come out and fight on the plain.

17. I doubt very much that white R voters in Georgia want chaos in their election.

I doubt that they want to be repeatedly challenged on their eligibility to vote, and subjected to chaos and pain when they simply try to cast a ballot.

Too bad for them. If that policy is going to be applied to black and urban voters in the state, then it needs to be applied to ALL voters equally. Show the white R voters that these laws affect them too.

And sorry, but if our democracy is a fort, then it's a crumbling and collapsing one, and is already nonexistent in Georgia if the worst of these laws are able to stand.

18. Sorry, but I believe your evaluation is wrong in every respect.

And btw, I'm in GA and GA just helped elect a Democratic president and TWO first-ever Democratic senators, giving us the majority vote in the senate.

By the skin of our teeth, yes, but that those victories mean democracy is "nonexistent" here is the REPUBLICAN argument. No, we did not steal the elections.

20. Yes, democracy functioned well in GA in the 2020 election,

and helped to elect a Dem president and win us control of the Senate. Are you accusing ME of claiming that the Dems stole the election???!!!

With the laws that just passed in the Republican GA legislature, the state is NO LONGER democratic. They can now remove whatever voters and whatever votes they wish, which they could not do before.

Under these new laws, they could have and would have prevented Biden, Warnock and Ossof from ever winning there.

Please explain how I'm wrong here, because I would really like to be, and please do it without falsely accusing me of using R talking points.

23. Well, that a couple of those laws especially would make it easier for them

to ILLICITLY steal elections doesn't mean election theft is legal, it's not. It doesn't mean they could get away with it if they tried, and we certainly would have something to say about that. And passing them doesn't mean it's happened, because it hasn't.

Aside from that, I don't feel any of us are serving ourselves well by declaring defeat before we've even gotten to smack these desperate losers around at the polls again.

10. I really think we're framing this wrong.

It's not about who gets to cast their vote, it's about who gets to decide if your vote counts.
