4. I would just use one paragraph.

The right is talking up Trump and Operation Warp Speed. Trump often mentions Warp Speed as proof that he developed a vaccine faster than any other President.

Here is the one passage that shoots all that pro-Trump bullshit down.

When he left office in January 2017, President Obama handed Trump mRNA technology that was ready to be used to develop vaccines for SARS and MERS, first cousins to SARS-COV-2. All Trump had to do was keep funding that effort at the level that President Obama did, Trump defunded such efforts. The reality is that the Moderna SARS-COV-2 vaccine came from an underfunded effort in Dr. Fauci’s lab, that in spite of Trump, was scraping together money to fund the effort by Dr. Clark and Dr. Corbett to make a vaccine for MERS, that effort was redirected to SARS-COV-2 (despite Trump’s BS) once the genomic sequence information on SARS-COV-2 came out of China.

People unfortunately don’t pay attention to long summaries, we have to hit them in the face with stuff that is short and to the point.

31. Yes. That too.

President Obama handed Trump the required technology for making a vaccine once the genome of the vaccine was sequenced (a rapid process due to advanced in that area).

The point that J wanted to make is that Trump, due to pulling money from all over government for his stupid wall, delayed a vaccine, not speed up development of one.

55. That is unfair and untrue.

They came up with a catchy nickname for the process. They, and especially HE, talked up the wonderful job he was doing, dragging all the unwilling bureaucracy along to the finish line. CLEARLY the most significant part of the ultimate success.

I think that much too little has been made of that program's name. "Warp" is pretty self-explanatory, as "warped" is a pretty common condition in matters pertaining to him. And, rumour has it that he is quite enthusiastic about speed, in various forms.

39. Sorry you had to go through that

I had Covid in November, although it was mild for me, it was still harrowing and extremely stressful. You just lay there at night and wonder if it's going to get worse and you might end up in the hospital or worse. There was 1 night I almost went to the hospital, but decided to get some sleep first and when I woke up I had turned the corner and got better and better from there.

The incompetence of the administration is maddening. But just as bad is how he used this crisis to pit Americans against each other. Over a pandemic, he had the country at each other's throats. During an event that should have been as unifying as any event could be, he divided the country based on science believers and deniers. This was batting practice for any other President, follow the science, pull the country together, and show any type of leadership.

We lost an aunt because our cousins had Covid and invited her to Thanksgiving Dinner because they believed that although they tested positive a couple days prior, since they no longer had symptoms they weren't contagious. She caught it there, got sick a few days later, was in the hospital 10 days after that and never came out, she passed just after Christmas. I blame that on Trump, the misinformation he spewed was believed by millions of people, because he's the President, some people believe the President.

48. I am very sorry about your aunt that is tragic

One of my students who also had covid pneumonia and likely transmitted it to me told me his grandmother died from it and they think a relative who lied about testing positive but came to. visit and transmitted it to them.

Yes the stress was awful... I was pretty sick went to er twice. I had severe pain non stop for over a
month and still have back and rib pain from it as well as worse asthma. So I am a long hauler. My father is much worse, he survived but he is in terrible shape and now dealing with other severe health issues due I believe to covid. I am pursuing a lawsuit most likely due to the er exposing him to covid and the terrible care he received. Maybe that will be an accountability at some point in some way for these murderers.

Don’t get me started on dump. Was never a prez, longtime criminal etc. who was inciting violence-
He should never have been allowed to run. Fascists and idiots got him into office. He is completely culpable from day one for all of this as are those who enabled it. It was all done intentionally. I never would expect that lunatic monster to handle anything properly but to do exactly what he did. Everyone who went along with it is guilty as well.

What I did not expect was that people would mostly sit by and watch it happen with so little opposition while 100s of thousands died.

38. + a million. Let's not forget the role of congressional Republicans either.

Their refusals from the beginning to take the appropriate, expected actions (that they themselves helped establish in years past) to contain, control, mitigate, etc,, even blocking action, are documented. Their reasons are not.

42. Good g-d.

Couldn't even read the whole thing. F***king murderer. And the irony is, if the response had been even 5% competent, this asshole would have won again. Incomprehensible. And a fabulous compilation, by the way.

44. I may add to this

This is just a sampling of his quotes, there are many more.

I post on bipartisan political boards. The Covid thread on one of them I am taking the quotes from a year ago day by day and adding them to that thread. So every day to a couple days, a few news quotes of his will be shown. Those threads survive years on other boards and get thousands of posts. From now on, people will read the trump quotes from a year ago daily.

Feb. 10, 2020

“I think the virus is going to be—it’s going to be fine.”

The virus managed to survive extremely well. The people, on the other hand , did not.

47. Wow, excellent timeline

Compared to Obama’s handling of the Ebola threat, t***p’s handling of Covid-19 was a goddamned JOKE and not a funny one at all...

50. Just what Eric Boehlert wrote about yesterday:

The MSM is not talking about this at all and the NYT had the gall to say Biden wasn't giving trump credit for the vaccine rollout. OMG!

51. Nice list but a few things were left out.

In late summer Trump pulled us out of an international program called PREDICT in late summer 2019.

https://globalbiodefense.com/2020/02/04/shutdown-of-predict-infectious-disease-program-challenged-by-senators-warren-and-king/

Trump knew about the coming virus in the fall of 2019 and what did he and Kushner do?
They went and invested in hydroxycholoroquine and their own C-19 test kits instead of using the one that
was developed by German Scientists. Both HQC and their own test kits were failures.

In February of 2020 Kushner and Pompeo sent 18 tons of PPE to China which in turned caused many, Drs, Nurses,
and 1st res-ponders to get sick and in many cases die of the disease.

53. On Feb. 2, when he claimed "We pretty much shut it down coming in from China."

I yelled BULLSHIT at the TV while enjoying a beer at the VFW, and in this red town it didn't go over very well.
Got real quiet in fact, some still refuse to talk to me.

56. Outstanding presentation but I would like to add

March 6, 2020. Trump boasts about how much he knows about the virus and doctors are amazed.

I think he was briefed accurately and lied about the severity. I was suspicious at the time.

58. Still is amazing to see this

I keep checking back to read his quotes from a year ago on this date.

Just this week:

April 3, 2020

“I’m feeling good. I just don’t want to be doing -- somehow sitting in the Oval Office behind that beautiful resolute desk, the great resolute desk, I think wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens, I don’t know, somehow I don’t see it for myself. I just don’t. Maybe I’ll change my mind.”

April 5, 2020

“FEMA, the military — what they’ve done is a miracle...And you should be thanking them for what they’ve done, not always asking wise-guy questions.” [Trump's response to a reporter when asked about slow government response to coronavirus]

April 6, 2020

“LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL!”

April 6, 2020

U.S. death toll passes 10,000

April 7, 2020

"So, you know, things are happening. It's a -- it's -- I haven't seen bad. I've not seen bad."

April 7, 2020

"You are not going to die from this pill...I really think it's a great thing to try." [Trump promoting Hydroxychloroquine, not FDA approved to treat coronavirus]

April 7, 2020

“That was a flu. OK. So you could say that I said it was a flu, or you could say the flu is nothing to -- sneeze at," [Regarding Spanish Flu]

April 8, 2020

"I read about it maybe a day, two days ago,...It was a recommendation that he had, I think he told certain people on the staff, but it didn't matter. I didn't see it." [Trump referring to Peter Navarro’s January warning]
