Remote Alaska Crash Kills the 68th richest person in the world

Remote Alaska Crash Kills One of World's Richest Men
Petr Kellner, 56, of Czech Republic dies while on heli-skiing trip

A crash in Alaska's backcountry during a Saturday heli-skiing trip claimed five lives, including that of the Czech Republic's richest man. The AP reports Petr Kellner, 56, had a 98.93% stake in the global investment company PPF Group and a net worth pegged at $17.5 billion; Forbes had him as the 68th richest person in the world in 2020. Reuters says this of the 56-year-old: "Kellner avoided public attention but was known to be a keen skier. A picture of him snowboarding was published in an annual [PPF] report." Benjamin Larochaix, also of the Czech Republic, was also killed; the two were reportedly regular guests at the Tordrillo Mountain Lodge.

It takes only few clicks on the net to ascertain the close relationship between Petr Kellner and the pro-Russian president Zeman, as well as the Czech businessman’s exposure in and with Russian firms, including to vet ties to VTB (Home Credit). There is a 100 per cent proven lithmus test – anyone doing business in Russia at the moment in strategic sectors has a rubber stamp of loyalty to Kremlin.

Does anyone even need to ask if I would prefer to have had $17 billion and died at 52, or even 56, or have not a cent more than I have now and still be here at 69?

Now this guy’s $17.5 billion made him 68th on the list ...

Flashback to 2005

June 27, 2005, 7:50 PM CDT / Source: The Associated Press

Wal-Mart heir John T. Walton, who died in the crash of his experimental, ultralight aircraft, was remembered as a friendly man who threw his considerable financial support behind efforts to educate low-income children.

... snip ...

In March, Forbes magazine listed John Walton as No. 11 on its list of the world’s richest people with a net worth of $18.2 billion. He was tied with his younger brother, Jim, one spot behind his older brother, Rob, who is Wal-Mart chairman, and just ahead of his sister, Alice, and his mother, Helen. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is the world’s largest retailer.

The billionaires are getting exponentially richer ...

That was my retired commercial pilot retired father-in-law’s advice.

This is why I'm kinda' boring. I'm not into adrenaline rush sports. I have a healthy fear of heights/mountains/water. Don't want to jump out of plane. Don't want to base jump or bungee jump. I like life. And that's just being an ordinary guy without much $$. If I were wealthy through my work or was an heir or something -- I'd have my dream home in the woods of Telluride or Jackson Hole (somewhere of the like) and you'd never see me.

Point is, I'm not a risk taker now. In some bizarro world in which I'm wealthy I'd be even less of a risk taker. Who wants to take chances with your life when your life is that flippin' good????
