3. Prosecutors blow up GOP denials about Capitol rioters: 'This was a heavily armed crew'

A "heavily armed" insurrection.

Conservatives have defended the Capitol rioters by pointing out they weren't carrying firearms, but that doesn't mean they weren't carrying weapons.

Charging documents show participants in the Jan. 6 insurrection carried stun guns, chemical irritants, baseball bats and flagpoles they used as clubs, and one person who remains at large planted pipe bombs near the headquarters of the Democratic and Republican parties the night before the siege, reported NPR.

"This was a pretty heavily armed crew of people compared to what you usually see at protests," said Heidi Beirich, a co-founder of the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism. "Even when you see people who are armed at protests in states, for example, where they have open-carry laws, they aren't storming into a building using the weapons in the way that we saw at the Capitol."

Rioters allegedly bludgeoned law enforcement officers with hockey sticks, flagpoles and fire extinguishers, according to court documents, and many carried high-power stun guns and similar less lethal weapons that posed a grave threat to police.

https://www.rawstory.com/us-capitol-riot/

Some supporters of former President Donald Trump have argued that the dangerousness of the Capitol rioters has been overblown. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., has said, for example, "This didn't seem like an armed insurrection to me."

Others have echoed that view, and conservative and pro-Trump media, like Breitbart, The Epoch Times and the Washington Examiner, have seized on the congressional testimony of FBI Assistant Director Jill Sanborn, who said the bureau did not confiscate firearms from suspects that day. But FBI spokesperson Carol Cratty told NPR that Sanborn was talking only specifically about arrests by the FBI, and not other police agencies that made arrests on the day of the riot — including arrests of people allegedly carrying guns.

7. Judge rejects Capitol riot suspect's request to sell guns in Georgia

A federal judge just denied the bond modification request of a former Georgia police officer Michael Shane Daughtry to possess and sell firearms while he awaits trial for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Prior to the attack, the man had run a gun business out of his home.

“Without that he has potentially no income to provide for himself,” said Jose Alejandro German, Daughtry’s public defender. “These are conditions that are really impacting his life.”

Daughtry is charged with entering restricted areas outside the Capitol, including climbing the scaffolding that had been erected for President Joe Biden’s inaugural. The charges are misdemeanors, although prosecutor Graciela Rodriguez Lindberg suggested they could be upgraded to felonies as the investigation continues.

Lindberg argued against allowing Daughtry access to guns, pointing to social media comments “that were concerning to the government.”

The comments included a Facebook post for his home gun business offering to sell assault rifles and ammunition ahead of the November general election. “It may be your last chance if the election don’t go right tomorrow,” he allegedly wrote.

In another post, he offered to sell “anti-liberal bullets.”

8. Retired Green Beret assaulted cop with flagpole during Capitol riot, charges allege

Former Green Beret arrested for attacking police during Capitol riot

A former Army Green Beret with more than two decades of service was arrested Wednesday and charged with using a flag as a spear against a police officer during the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, according to an FBI criminal complaint unsealed Thursday.

Retired Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey A. McKellop donned a helmet and gas mask and moved toward D.C. Metropolitan Police lines as they attempted to prevent a mob of rioters from breaching the Capitol building at about 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 6, the complaint alleged.

Police body cameras caught McKellop pushing police officers, trying to grab a riot control spray canister from one officer and throwing a flagpole like a spear at another, causing a laceration to that officer’s face, the complaint alleged.

Screenshots included in the complaint showed McKellop wearing the same helmet and ballistic vest that he used in an overseas combat zone in 2018, according to one of two witnesses who came forward to identify him to FBI agents.

13. Text Messages Show Oath Keeper's Plan to Protect Roger Stone Ahead of Capitol Riot

Roger Stone’s name just keeps turning up in Capitol riot court filings

To show up once in court filings related to Oath Keepers accused of taking part in the Capitol riots is unfortunate—to show up twice, in one day, throws up a few more questions. According to CNN, Roger Stone’s name and image showed up in pair of court filings on Thursday. In one, Oath Keeper Donovan Crowl can be seen texting others about his plan to act as Stone’s security before the Jan. 6 insurrection. “Will be in DC Tuesday and Wednesday. Part of Roger Stone’s Oathkeeper security detail. Should be fun,”

From an allegedly violent North Carolina Proud Boy appearing in a disturbing photo op with a D.C. cop to the son of a Philly officer, the connections keep getting worse.

In late September 2019, Charles Donohoe took to the encrypted messaging app Telegram with a call to arms.

“We need to stop fighting antifa in the streets where the cops are and start fighting them in bars and alleys,” Donohoe, a member of the far-right streetfighting group the Proud Boys, wrote. “We need to stomp them. We need to ruin their lives physically like they have ruined ours financially with doxxing. We need to rack up their hospital bills. We need to use special operations tactics and lightning strike them.”

At the time of the post, Donohoe’s Telegram profile picture was a photo of him in the Proud Boys uniform, shaking hands with a D.C. Metropolitan Police officer.

--snip--

“Wow. Wow. Wow. I do not want to be associated with that,” Cole told The Daily Beast after learning that Donohoe had been charged in relation to the Capitol riot.

16. Suspect Who Complained that 'Women and Children' Were Repelled by Cops Now Faces Charges

Annie Howell, a Pennsylvania woman, stormed the U.S. Capitol, blamed Antifa, said it was inappropriate for authorities to try to repel “women and children,” and otherwise took steps to wipe evidence from her electronic devices after the Jan. 6 breach.

According to a statement of facts on file in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, Annie Howell of Swoyersville, near Scranton, entered the Capitol with others and trashed a conference room. She documented her activities heavily on social media both before and during the deadly siege.

The FBI caught wind of Howell’s involvement when two witnesses provided online tips that Howell had recorded her exploits at the Capitol and shared the video on social media. One tipster told the FBI Howell appeared to be “inciting the crowd in order to storm the building.” Among Howell’s alleged chants, the tipster said, were “[w]ho’s [sic] house, our house!!” and “fight for trump [sic].” A second tipster said Howell traveled to D.C. on Jan. 6 to to attend Trump’s rally and subsequently went to the Capitol.

25. Capitol rioter bans Biden voters from his Ohio coffee shop

The owner of a coffee shop in Lisbon, Ohio stormed the United States Capitol building on January 6th -- and now he's telling people who voted for President Joe Biden they are not welcome in his store.

In an interview with local news station WKBN, C4 Coffee owner Adam Newbold said he didn't want Biden supporters, transgender people, or people who support taking a knee during the national anthem to come into his store.

"If you voted for Joe Biden, don't buy our coffee, it's not for you," he said. "If you feel that America is on the right track and there's nothing wrong with gender neutral, don't know which bathroom to use, use whichever bathroom you feel like during the day… don't buy our coffee cause it's not for you."

Newbold also defended his decision to storm the Capitol building on January 6th, although he insists that he didn't engage in any illegal activity and stayed on the steps outside the building.

Last edited Thu Mar 25, 2021, 01:55 PM - Edit history (1)

US Justice Dept has released series of messages allegedly sent by accused Oath Keeper Donovan Crowl of Ohio before and after the US Capitol Insurrection.

"Colluding to wage a Guerilla War against United States"

Planning emergency hideout "bugout" plan if the "usurper" is installed..... hiding out in the mountains of Kentucky

Messages indicate fears of "drone surveillance" against them when Trump left office

Amid string of messages, an accused Oath Keeper compares Jan 6 to the Boston Tea Party, but indicates it was more important and dangerous

Feds allege Crowl sent a message at 3am on Jan. 6 that he was planning on ANTIFA "hunting"

In new court filing, feds allege Crowl was a leader and conspirator of effort to disrupt electoral college count on Jan. 6.... sending message on Jan. 4 about his trip to DC for an "Oath Keeper op"

Message allegedly sent by Oath Keepers compared force needed at Insurrection to "rugby".... with instructions to take shields from police officers, amid chants of "We Want Trump!"

Meanwhile.. defense attorneys are trying to convince a judge to *release* Donovan Crowl from custody pending future hearings. US Justice Dept prosecutors are arguing for pretrial detention...

Matthew Leland Klein, 24, and Jonathanpeter Allen Klein, 21, also participated in violent far-right protests in Salem and Portland months before they traveled to Washington, D.C....

Court documents spell out in detail how the brothers assisted other members of the crowd on Jan. 6 in climbing a wall to gain access to the upper west terrace of the Capitol. The Kleins then entered the building, and celebrated with another member of the Proud Boys screaming, “proud of your fucking boy,” the documents state.

The Kleins then allegedly exited the building and forced open a door on the building’s north side. Seeing federal law enforcement officers on the other side of the door, prosecutors said, Matthew Klein put on goggles and advanced on the officers carrying a yellow Gadsden flag affixed to a flagpole.

40. Videos show attack on Capitol Police Officer Sicknick

Videos obtained by The Times show for the first time how U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died after engaging rioters on Jan. 6, was attacked with chemical spray while guarding the west side of the Capitol:

Two men, Julian Khater and George Tanios, have been accused of assaulting Sicknick with chemical spray. The new videos show Khater arriving at the riot, Sicknick manning a line of barricades, Khater spraying him, and Sicknick retreating. I'll share our findings here.

A separate video captures Khater huddling with Tanios. “Give me that bear shit,” Khater says. He takes a white canister out of Tanios’s backpack. When Tanios tells him to wait, Khater says, “They just sprayed *me*!”

Khater keeps moving around, observing the police. Then, at 2:23 p.m., rioters rush, attempting to rip bike racks away from the officers. Khater reaches over rioters’ heads and sprays a thin stream of liquid. Sicknick immediately shields his face and retreats.

Five minutes later, after pulling away the barricades, rioters overrun the police line. Some officers later regroup in a key doorway, where they will fight a brutal battle that lasts for more than two hours, during which a mob will drag at least four officers into the crowd.

43. 'Uncharted waters.' Judges are banning some Capitol riot suspects from the internet

WASHINGTON — Beverly Hills esthetician and eyelash stylist Gina Bisignano was so present on social media that the federal criminal complaint against her practically wrote itself.
The story of a 52-year-old salon owner who charted a dark path of disinformation to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, where she allegedly grabbed a bullhorn and urged rioters to take up weapons, is backed by one social media post after another embedded in the Department of Justice filing.

There is Bisignano in her Louis Vuitton sweater, filmed in front of the Capitol talking about her business and hometown as the riot was getting underway. There she is again, addressing rioters with a rant about globalists, George Soros and stolen votes. And again, calling for weapons and gas masks moments before a rioter attacks an officer with what appears to be a baseball bat.

Now, Bisignano has gone silent online. She is not allowed on the internet. Not because social media platforms banned her, but because a federal judge did. If Bisignano goes online while awaiting trial, she risks being jailed....
