My theory as to why Cuomo supports an investigation, but his detractors don't seem thrilled

The "resign now" crowd is aware of the likelihood and negative implications of an investigation which
1) finds that Cuomo was mildly creepy, at worse, and
2) One or more of the accusers simply made up the allegations against Cuomo.

We already have one star accusers deciding not to cooperate with the authorities.

1. Again follow the money.

An investigation would likely reveal if one or more of the accusers has a recent spike in their bank account. I have seen too many Republican dirty tricksters.

Remember, Tara Reade was found to be represented by a Trump lawyer.

3. His nursing home policy killed people

Then they lied about it and threatened people who wouldn’t lie about it.

That’s why he should resign.

It’s disgusting people think this is only about him being “creepy.”

That D behind his name shouldn’t mean our principles go flying out the window. And I don’t care about, “But Trump!” If Trump is our standard now, we’re in deep shit.

11. They want him to resign over

that so they accuse him of sexual harassment? That's a whole lot of risk for no reward. How about we let the investigation play out which is what we actually believe in instead of throwing out the baby with the bathwater? What's the big hurry all of a sudden?

17. Not true. The nursing homes were supposed to follow guidelines,

to only accept patients if they had the ability to properly quarantine them. And the nursing home spread occured mainly due to workers and visitors etc who lacked proper PPE in the early days of the pandemic. The nursing home problem occurred across the country, not just in NY which even with the 'correct' numbers is still way down on the list.

The goal of his executive order was to make sure the hospitals didn't become overloaded because the nursing homes would arbitrarily refuse to take patients.

In that case, the Cuomo critics would now be saying that he allowed the hospitals to become overloaded with recovered patients while the new patients died in the streets.

4. Remember that lt governor in Virginia that was accused of sexual abuse ?

Last edited Sat Mar 13, 2021, 09:41 PM - Edit history (1)

And of far worse things than Cuomo ?

His accusors all refused an independent investigation by legal authorities. But they wanted to testify at hearings run by Republicans. I think the plan was for Northam to resign over the racist costume (which was decades ago) and they can force lt gov out and a republican would take over.

The more I look into the Cuomo accusations the more strange the whole thing is.

Many of the accusations were in the public in front of huge crowds and cameras and of what happened as they took pics. The same happened with Franken.

And the story about toxic work environment seemed to all be about women who freely decided to dress ways they think would appeal to him.

But there was nothing where he told them to look certain ways or do certain things or they would lose their jobs.

Even the ones that brought up him talking about relstionships were one time things. Nothing of him trying to continue going after and retaliating.

It seemed more like just conversations people have and maybe he needs to be more strict and change his behavior just to avoid certain appearances.

I do think Cuomo is probably an ass and bully so he has no defenders but plenty of enemies. And he has been in office for a long time and would likely have won again.

5. Please, let's not get into how the women dressed

That has been used as an excuse for this sort of activity, and far worse activity, against women for a long time.

7. I'm talking about the article where they themselves talk about this

My point is that they never said Cuomo told them to dress that way. It was just the women talking among themselves .

18. +1. Cuomo's ratings twice as high as de Blasio

(from the same article)
But in New York City, it’s a much different story.

Emerson, which released two additional polls last week, surveyed more than 1,000 registered voters in New York City. It found Cuomo’s approval rating there is much higher than the rest of the state, at 55 percent.

That’s also twice as high as Mayor Bill de Blasio’s rating.

The poll shows more people in NYC found Cuomo’s apology over sexual harassment allegations sincere than voters throughout the rest of the state.

12. party of ethics

With Dems being the party of ethics (my perspective, at least), Republicans can exploit the hell out of dems who have muddied characters (whether accurately depicted or not, it doesn't matter in the slightest. It's the opportunity to throw mud that they revel in and that gives them some of their power). Meanwhile Dem leaders always feel that they have to hold the ethical line (often without investigations, sadly). Piling on raises alarms about his behavior, no doubt, but Republicans will push the opportunity to exploit this to the nth degree.

14. He welcomes an investigation because he will be able to control it,

while it has a veneer of independence.

But the EEOC guidelines make it clear that he should be stepping aside while the investigation is taking place, so he won't be able to interfere with any testimony from his staffers.

The fact that he's refusing to do this is telling.

27. No. All are to continue in their positions per EEOC

If any accusers report to him they are are supposed to be given someone else to report to while there is an investigation.

16. Why didn't these accusers speak up last year?

Before Joe Biden started winning primaries some people were pushing Cuomo as the Democratic nominee.

Why did these women not step forward then and make known what they're now saying?

Where were they and why were they silent?
