Did Trump show Democrats that Republicans are pushovers and cowards?

I've been wondering why the Dems are now doing whatever they want without any concern for what Republicans have to say. They are steamrolling over the GOP in congress and ignoring all of their threats and tough talk. That's quite the reversal from what we saw in the 2000s when the Democrats seemed so afraid of the Republicans. I remember them backing down constantly when the GOP even gave them so much as a dirty look.

I do think the one good thing Trump did is that he exposed the Republicans as spineless pushovers who just talk tough. The GOP warn Democrats of dire consequences if the Dems do this or that. I wonder if the Dems now realize, thanks to Trump, that they can ignore Republican threats and there will be zero consequences.

1. I think that's more of a symptom than the cause. Correlation but not causality.

I think first and foremost the difference is that we've tried reaching a hand out to them repeatedly, only to pull the hand back broken and mangled. It's sunk in that they're not interested and trying gains nothing.

They've done 180s about their supposed priorities ever since Clinton beat Poppy Bush. We're at the fifth transition now, and it happened again like clockwork. Even those most faithfully chasing the Holy Grail of bipartisanship can't ignore the pattern.

Eventually you have to learn that the way to stop Lucy from yanking the football is to not even try for the football, and kick her instead.

2. We're not doing as you imagine. They're redoubtable because

they're not pushovers for their opponents, they're marauders.

Many, not all, are ruthless leaders themselves but all are still capable of becoming obedient to a more dominating leader, which is what we're seeing in a lot of them.

They intend to win by any means possible.

We're using the institutions of government with the power the electorate gave us as best we can to stop them. You might want to read up about the reconciliation process we used to pass the For the People Act. It can only be used in special budget cases, and that means typically seldom.

5. the GOP "govern" by Toddler's Rules

1. If I want it, it's mine
2. If it's in my hand, it's mine
3. If I can take it away from you, it's mine
4. If I had it a little while ago, it's mine
5. If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way
6. If we're building something together, all the pieces are mine
7. If it just looks like mine, it's mine
8. If I think it's mine, it's mine
9. If I give it to you and I change my mind later, it's mine
10. Once it's mine it will never belong to anyone else no matter what

6. :) Missing the genuine spite and vindictiveness intrinsic

to what they've become, but certainly true as far as it goes.

3. Ramming through the Supreme Court Justice...

...weeks before the election was the last straw.

That was so blatant that the Congressional Dems finally said fuck it.

Lucy pulled the football one too many times...

4. More than being pushovers, tRump proved that Rs have no real beliefs or commitments.

It they had a real ideology they would have fought for it, even against tRump.

Their only belief is in holding power. Period.

9. reTHUG fascists who commit murder do more than talk. They're a real danger. They've

showed us who they are for years now. It's time for us to stop talking and take steps to
remove them as the very real threat they are.

10. I also think they saw in 2010

We lost a lot of votes by trying so hard to be with the other side it looked like we were weak. I remember how angry my husband got with Obama then. Kept saying he should have done more first two years.

I keep reading now Joe has learned from that and will not repeat it.

11. No, the lesson was learned during the Obama administration.

They constantly let the Repugs make changes, amendments, on and on, and then, in the end, they still voted no. So, this time, they just said, "okay, they're going to vote no, so let's not waste time on all this BS." Done and done.
