The British Royals Are An Anachronism

It's no wonder we are surprised at the antics of the Royal Family in the UK. They are mostly not bothering to change with the times. Insulated from the people of their nation, who have changed massively in so many ways, they are attempting to preserve a lifestyle that really ended after World War I.

Some in the UK love the Royals as a symbol of a forgotten age. Those people imagine a world of courtesy and largesse. However, it was never thus. The Royals and the rest of the British aristocracy always lived separately from the rest of the population, were not required to follow the same rules as commoners, and demanded worshipful respect from everyone.

Royals married within the aristocracy. To do otherwise was beyond scandalous. No commoner could possibly understand and properly take advantage of the privileges of being a royal. Therefore, they would behave in ways that brought unwanted attention to the aristocracy and its extreme privilege.

"It simply isn't done" is an expression that defines behavior. Never mind whether what "is done" makes any sense at all.

Why are we surprised that the skin color of a royal offspring is a point of discussion? Dark-skinned royals is something "that simply isn't done."

How long will the Royals remain as they are? Who can say?
