1. Media has a pro-controversy bias

They enable the fringes to drive ratings. It's all about the ratings.

The right fringe is more populous, so they get targeted both positively and negatively

3. The MSM alone are mostly owned by 6 or 7 giant conglomerates,

big business, and wealthy people with big wealth and big business interests. Experts study the media. CNN, MSNBC, NYT and the AP, just for a little list, all work to keep Republicans in power at both state and federal levels and were not just routinely biased and dishonest in 2015-16 but in some cases actively deceiving people by publishing lies.

Not "all" about ratings..Also about "framing" and maintaining establishment views.

I would argue it is about both, but the advertisers are the ultimate arbiter of what goes on air or in print.

Probably drives a lot of it. Highly paid corporate media executives and personalities are probably heavily invested in stocks. About all the GQP does now is push tax cuts, deregulation, and low interest rates which tend to boost Wall Street. No doubt in 2015-16 corporate media knew Dump had no soul or integrity and would do absolutely anything to boost the stock market so he could use it as THE economic barometer and endlessly boast about it. So they gave him nonstop coverage despite all the lies and unfitness for the job.
