I was just thinking.... what if a wealthy humanitarian organization were to promise striking workers (and would-be scabs) a daily stipend to keep picketing a store until they got their demands?
For each store with 100 workers, and 200 would-be replacements at $10 an hour, that would amount to $24,000 per day. Compared to the amount of money sloshing around political campaigns these days, supporting low-wage workers this way is peanuts!

American Airlines pilots have to consider whether a judge would fine them or send them to jail for striking because the railway labor act doesn't give them the same strike rights as other unions.
Mr Obama, please abolish the RLA. It hamstrings unions and rewards management for dragging their heels. AA pilots have been in negotiations for over 6 years and the NMB won't release to self-help. While you're at it, please do something about the bankruptcies of convenience like AA's to strip workers of retirement and health benefits (not to mention pay). Also please make sure when pilots find problems with aircraft, they don't lose a whole weeks pay. They should be covered by the Fair labor standards act from the time they are required to sign in before a trip, including time spent inspecting the aircraft as well as deicing prior to takeoff!
