The sad truth is Trump is too mentally impaired and unbalanced to testify at his impeachment trial

He couldn’t pull it off if his life depended upon. A skillful cross-examination would cause Trump to have a complete and total melt down, and he’s cagey enough to realize it.

also an insurrection event. He should be on the stand IMO. Let him try to justify his claims and also trying to excuse himself from the resulting insurrection at the capital. This guy always slips through the cracks, never seems held responsible for a damn thing and goes off on his merry way leaving destruction behind him that he caused. Never held responsible!!!

He misses being the center of attention and his testimony would shatter viewing records.

His lawyers won't let him testify because they know he would perjure himself. I believe there's an ethical rule that lawyers cannot knowingly allow a client to lie under oath.

Frankly, I think Trump has finally gone around the bend. He actually believes he won the election and should still be president. Really! I'm sure he's still plotting something, perhaps for the beginning of March to try to bring the attention back onto himself.

We're very, very lucky that Trump didn't do more damage in the last 4 years.

Sun Feb 7, 2021, 01:58 PM

He knows his side cheated and he's pissed that Americans beat him fair and square.

The state prosecutions are more problematical. For example, it was reported the other day that New York City's DA, Cy Vance, was not going to pursue a prosecution of Trump related to the Stormy Daniels hush-money payment even though Michael Cohen was convicted and jailed for the same crime. Why did "Individual No. 1" evade prosecution?

However, NY's Attorney General, Letitia James, will definitely be going after Trump for civil criminality and tax violations.

Trump is toast. He'll fade away in relevance over the next couple of years as current events eclipse his term. It'll drive him nuts and I'll love it!

Look, he was mentally unstable during this tenure as president. Now he has an unstructured existence. No meetings, no timetable, no schedule. All he does is golf and watch FOX News. Nobody's calling. He probably has to have Ivanka call around to get a foursome together for golf. He has literally nothing to think about and that deficit contributes to further mental incapacity.

He'd make a terrible witness at the impeachment hearings. Not to mention such a display would further drive away supporters who are still donating money that's being funneled into the Trump Organization.

It is a recurring thought that Trump organized the January 6th event in the same manner as a wrestling match. Going against advice* he truly believed he was being the people's president, doing everything he could to give the people what they wanted - a great show.
Let's contrast what being the President means to him against what it means to any true public servant. It is difficult to imagine that President Biden or Vice President Harris are not humbled by the honor of being chosen to represent an entire country, of being proud in accepting that responsibility, and making improvements wherever and however possible.
Will Trump under oath be forced to detail how he cast characters for the spotlights, how he directed the placement of law enforcement officers, how he conspired Congress members to be on set for when the actors broke through? How mob mentality prevailed and broke through the barriers taking innocent lives? That's unlikely. It's also unlikely that we will learn of how dedicated professionals undermined the logistics of supplying the insurrection with weapons, barriers, and supplies needed to hold off our crippled agencies.
Ever since Trump came down that escalator a few years ago he thought it was all for him. He thought he was what the people wanted, that he was the only one who could deliver a truly spectacular show right down to the costume.
Trump planned it, organized, and orchestrated it. He can only avoid having to admit it. The most damning evidence we will never see.

*there is little doubt that every effort possible was made to stop the fracas at every step.

There are always many layers with large-scale government events. Some we are in the process of learning, some we will never know. This was the most horrific wake up call imaginable foe our country, to the threat of white nationalism and even more importantly to the very real and continuing threat of unregulated social media, and surveillance capitalism. I fear if we don’t take serious steps to confront and address these threats, our democratic republic will soon be over.
