So I have a question-when a trans person says they're a trans woman or a trans man does the gender listed refer to birth gender identity or where you are or are headed in terms of gender and is this a fairly fixed protocol? Thanks in advance!

Generally, a trans man is someone who was assigned female at birth and is now a man.

I'm not trans, but it looks pretty clear it's meant to describe the true (destination) identity.

For each poster I try to draw a mental picture of the person and even though I'm sure my imaginings are probably wildly off the mark It helps me interact with them. Not knowing the proper use of the terms was leaving me gender confused...
