I don't think hannity and carlson are necessarily playing to RWNJs.
It occurred to me a few days ago: they are actually playing to people who are angry at the world and want something to be angry about; to people who distrust other people; to people who feel entitled and are afraid of losing their entitlement; to racists.
Hitler took an ancient symbol -- the swastika -- and turned it into a unifying visual device for people who distrusted the current government and wanted something different. I think what h and c (and Fox itself) are doing is just the opposite: they created a symbol (the Democrats) to get these people unified and pissed off. And, because the media is all about making money, they keep giving them stuff to piss them off so they keep coming back and watching the commercials. The funny thing is that RWNJs in power or "high up" in business or government probably don't watch Fox. They're too busy making money. They just rely on "the masses" to stay pissed off at the Democrats so they will vote for the Republicans. Maybe it's a weird idea, but I think it makes sense in a twisted way.

1. They do have a symbol. It's that ridiculous red Maga hat.
Also a prehistoric symbol for cave men with clubs.

2. That was the reason for the 60+ bogus election suits
Those were filled with errors, bad logic and statements that didn’t meet any standards as evidence.
The strategy wasn’t to win in court. It was to create cover for congress people to challenge the electors and to incite the violence on January 6th. It’s been the Republican strategy for a long time. Make people mad and then lead them where they want. |

3. If there were no sane people watching them just to keep an eye
on what they're spewing, I wonder how much their ratings would go down.

4. Self hatred
The Fox et al. networks are all about lizard brain people--stuck in their amygdalas.
Fear. Anger masks their fear. Why minimize the virus and compare to just the flu and spout nonsense that 99.9% survive? Because they are terrified it is exactly as virulent as they say. They are afraid, so they deny it's severity. Wishful thinking and hope based on fear of death. These people think they're part of the big club--but they are not. They work for a living. A nice living, but they still work. There were no investor class running amok. Just middle and professional class people who vote like the millionaires they hope to be and against their own interests. I heard my uncle talking about how he could graduate and go tot work and support a family, then blamed democrats. Uh, white people voting against their own economic interests got rid of unions and pensions. White people keep minimum wages low, then bitch their college drop out can't move out on his grocery store salary. They hate themselves, and fear we are right about who they are. |

7. Fear and Greed
Greed is simply another form of fear - it's the desire to amass sufficient wealth (protection from adversity) to keep from looking weak. Resentment stems from the same fear. Madison Avenue (or its electronic successor) is predicated upon selling status symbols - houses, cars, clothing, youth enhancers, etc., that are involved in keeping up with the Joneses. The GOP has simply laid itself on top of this advertising and claimed that, if you follow them, you'll have these status symbols too.
This is one reason why so many rural people so easily fall into the GOP trap. They resent what others now have that they don't. They are fearful of change, which tends to come from urbanization, and they tend to live in information-poor environments that has only been made worse by a media that has perfected the art of selling via fear. It's a short trip from fear to resentment to anger. |
