WAPO: A look inside Biden's Oval Office (here explains the paintings & busts already displayed)
EVERYTHING was swapped out today...If you saw the brief press opportunity with Biden earlier this afternoon in the oval office, you saw the bust behind the resolute desk and the photos. That is Cesar Chavez. Eleanor Roosevelt also appears nearby
![]() President Biden has filled the Oval Office with images of American leaders and icons, focusing the room around massive portrait of Franklin Delano Roosevelt that hangs across from the Resolute Desk. It is a clear nod to a president who helped the country through significant crises, a challenge Biden now also faces.
-snip-- Some are paired, with paintings of President Thomas Jefferson and former Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton hung near each other — the two men frequently disagreed and were placed together to illustrate the benefits that come from differing views. Biden’s office said the paintings were twinned “As hallmarks of how differences of opinion, expressed within the guardrails of the Republic, are essential to democracy.” ![]() Busts of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy flank a fireplace in the office. Biden often refers to the impact that both men made on the country as part of the Civil Rights movement. Biden is also nodding to segments of the Democratic Party’s base via historic references. Behind the Resolute desk is a bust of Cesar Chavez. The office also includes busts of Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt and sculpture by Allan Houser of the Chiricahua Apache tribe that once belonged to the late Sen. Daniel K. Inouye (D-HI) — the first Japanese-American elected to both houses of Congress. A painting of Benjamin Franklin is intended to represent Biden’s interest in following science. The painting is stationed near a moon rock set on a bookshelf that is intended to remind Americans of the ambition and accompaniments of earlier generations. President Trump’s light gold drapes have been replaced with a different, darker shade of gold that hung in President Bill Clinton’s Oval Office. The dark blue rug was also in the office during the Clinton administration., ![]() --more-- ![]()

10. Looking at the Oval Offices they have color photos of....
Clinton's gold paired with dark blue carpet (Biden's current look) looks most striking to my mind followed by Obama's red (though I'm not sure that particular red was the best choice) and HWs baby blue.
Dark blue might be interesting or a darker red, but what he has now is a good look since that gold is much better than Trump's less vibrant shade, works well against the blue, and I think his couch choices work better than Clinton's. |

42. Once had a long hallway coming in our front door...
that one of our dogs loved to rub against its walls as she walked thru when she was wet from rain or dirty before I could dry her. Yuck! You can imagine what the wall began to look like.
So, I "papered" that hallway in a realistic looking, light beige vinyl grasscloth. Perfect solution as it was so easy to wipe clean & was a perfect neural background for pictures. (& Yep, I really love dogs. ![]() |

On the other hand, maybe the online photos don't do it justice. The Daily Mail photo is much bluer. Lighting, flash spectrum, and post-processing of pictures make it difficult to judge.
But there must be some nicer colors in the Federal period palette. |

is that President Biden is comfortable with the décor. He is the one who will spend the most time there. The gold drapes aren't bad at all. It is just the association of gold with Trump that troubles us, but we'll get over it eventually.
