Axios reports that Trump in early January was tormented by Lincoln Project ads that aired regularly on Fox News and which began with a narrator saying, "The end is coming, Donald."

Even more significantly, the ads went on to taunt Trump for the role that Pence would play in overseeing the congressional certification of President-elect Joe Biden's victory.

"On January 6, Mike Pence will put the nail in your political coffin," the ad informed him.

Trump was so furious with the ad that he tried to order Pence to somehow get it taken off the air, according to Axios's sources."President Trump, furious, told his vice president to send the Lincoln Project gang a cease-and-desist letter," the publication writes. "In reality, this would only have further delighted Trump's tormentors and provided ammo for another ad. Marc Short, chief of staff to Mike Pence, consulted officials on the Trump campaign. Their advice: Just ignore it."
