Gerald Ford Sucked
Republicans claim Ford was a good president by providing "healing" when he pardoned the Criminal Tricky Dick. They are trying to do it again. "Unity" and "Healing" don't mean letting criminals get away with their misdeeds.

1. Gerald Ford, if the conventional wisdom story is assumed (Nixon resignation for pardon), was
a fucking criminal who should have been prosecuted.... That's a bribe.
Being POTUS is a thing of value. Let's not bullshit ourselves or each other about that. |

3. Nixon resigned and it is just a bad comparison and Ford did not suck even if he shouldn't have
pardoned.
Trump is far worse than Nixon . |

4. Actually, Ford did not suck. Nixon was not Trump. The GOP was not what it is now.
I was livid when Nixon got pardoned — that does not make then and now the same.

5. Exactly, no comparison . Better Comparison would be how we failed after slavery ended
to hold confederates accountable and allowed the pro confederate types to take control of the south again .

7. Very different
Nixon was forced to resign with Ford being his vice-president. It did suck that Ford pardoned him, but it didn't come as a surprise both being Republicans. I don't get the impression that Joe has any respect at all for Trump. He undoubtedly would like to watch him go down in flames as much as most of the world. Actually, I'm hard pressed to think of what would be "healed" by a pardon. My hope is that Trump, his children, his enablers, and any and all criminal associates are hounded, exposed, charged, convicted and never seen or heard from again. The nightmare is going to end in a matter of days. It will be a glorious morning filled with wondrous joy watching the piper collect his pay. It's possible that the evidence of crimes will be so overwhelming that a solid portion of his supporters will quietly try to deny that they ever really liked him. Try to be gentle with them. Forgive them? Kiss my ass. Let them slink away to live with their shame forever, and if one of them criticizes President Biden, or any Democrat...cut them off at the knees...drop a ton of bricks on them. They have lost the right to have an opinion.

9. Well...
... Ford was not like Republicans, now. He also wasn't like Nixon, then. There were still wide ranges of liberal-conservative views in both parties... Ford gave up his chances for election - on his own - by issuing the pardon, in my opinion; he gave up something. Many Democrats supported the plan (pardoning Nixon).
... HOWEVER, in hindsight, it was a mistake to issue that pardon. Nixon was able to go on saying he did nothing wrong, with no legal consequences. He was disgraced, of course. But without the legal consequences, we should assume someone without shame would not learn any lessons by looking at Nixon's experience. ![]() |

10. Different times indeed
Nixon was not batshit crazy. He was persuaded to resign when his fellow Republicans told him that there were enough votes for impeachment and removal from office. He had enough brains to spare himself the embarrassment. By then, most of his own party had turned on him. And he certain didn’t have the rabid followers Dolt 45 has.
