The Scots have had a sporran-fullCapitol riots fallout sounds the death knell for Donald Trump's toxic brand
It is hard to put an figure on the price Scotland is paying for Donald Trump’s continuing malignant presence in this country, but the R&A’s announcement that his Turnberry resort will not host the Open Championship for the “foreseeable future” confirms that it stretches into at least nine figures. After several years of keeping its powder dry, and issuing biannual diplomatic non-committals, golf’s governing body finally gave voice to what many long suspected – for as long as the historic Ayrshire property is besmirched by Mr Trump’s ownership, it will not host the sport’s oldest, and arguably most prestigious, tournament. It is a blow to the storied venue and all who hold it dear. Some of the tournament’s grandest dramas have played out at Turnberry, not least the Duel in the Sun between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus. There are people who have been employed there long before Mr Trump arrived on the scene who are rightly despondent at how their pride and joy has been so comprehensively diminished. https://www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/columnists/capitol-riots-fallout-sounds-death-knell-donald-trumps-toxic-brand-martyn-mclaughlin-3093496 Donald Trump: Golf world starts to turn on this cheater in sport and democracy – Scotsman comment In 2018, golfer Suzann Pettersen revealed something telling about Donald Trump. A regular partner of the US President, she said he “cheats like hell”. The 15-time LPGA tour winner added: “In all the times I’ve played him, he’s never come close to breaking 80, but what’s strange is that every time I talk to him he says he just golfed a 69 or that he set a new course record.” There are some who view a person’s actions on the fairway and green as a profound indication of the content of their character. And, given Trump’s disgraceful attempts to cheat at democracy, they may be right. https://www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/columnists/donald-trump-golf-world-starts-turn-cheater-sport-and-democracy-scotsman-comment-3092665

3. Just watch his swing and you know he can't really play golf.
The other strange thing is that you can tell he never really follows/watches the ball. He hits it and turns around and puts his club in the bag. How does he know where it went if he does not watch it land and roll?
I think he just walks down the course and drops a new ball in the fairway instead of finding the ball he previously hit. Or, maybe he just skips all of that and walks up to the green and drops a ball near the flag. |

5. Nongolfers can't really understand
Unless you are in a direct competition, golfers will tend to let you decide whatever score you want. The end result is that you can delude yourself into any score you want. However, everyone you play with will know. Worse, it will get around quickly and is hard to live down. A bit like his presidency, no one will ever know what he did and didn't accomplish, because he was a known cheat.
