Is being ill-mannered becoming the norm? I'm referring to that passive-aggressive,

arrogant POS who sent an email to the TV station criticizing a woman morning anchor for being overweight.

I was surprised that so many DU posters seemed to be OK with that. Silly me!

I tend to give the general public credit for having more intelligence than they in general have. I'm working on correcting that.

Do you teach your children not to tell people they're fat? Or in some other way, not the norm--whatever that is?

Or is it cute and cool to be a rude smartass these days? (Why do I even ask?)

My mother has always been that way (a reaction to my schizophrenic father and her calvinist father), and I see it all over the place. It's disturbing.

True practitioners, however, know how to wield passive-aggressiveness like a hand grenade. A rude email is child's play.

I'm sure you meant well. (See what I mean?)

Because they are somehow less worthy than others. They are the last group that it is OK to denigrate based solely on their appearance.

I truly hate it, but all I can really do is teach my children to be better than that.

The guy truly believes that he did nothing wrong. That's the saddest part of the whole story. And now, if the anchorwoman does decide to lose weight, all it will do is encourage people like him to insult others in a misguided effort to "help them improve."

Romney has the arrogant hostility thing patented. His remark to Jim Lehrer
("I even like YOU.&quot was a perfect example of public humiliation dressed up as a joke. Romney specializes in this.

at the lack of a hue and cry from the populace for the actions of that creep Mitt during the debate. Didn't his mama teach him anything? Can it be possible that we have found a candidate that would make a worse president than W? Can you guess what the answer to my rhetorical question is?

I was brought up to speak respectfully to all human beings. No exceptions.

So, today, when I saw a car with a confederate flag on it, I politely asked the man what that flag meant to him. He responded with invective. I repeated my question. He called me a mouthy bitch. I shrugged and said, "well, you have to live with yourself. Have a blessed day."

I'm an atheist, but I remember some bible verse about heaping hot coals on your enemies...

And finally, i think this is a thread for meta as it is cranking on about DU, its members and another previous thread you could have just posted on.
