How can we keep Moscow Mitch and his band of bastards from abusing the filibuster AGAIN

We can leave out anything involving shaming them, they don't have any and the price to pay for voting against America's interest isn't high enough for them.

What can be done?

thx in advance

4. It's rather simple, have 16 Democrats call for cloture. Bring everything to a vote.

The filibuster is not actually that nightmarish. They just have to do their job and bring things to a vote.

Those "originalist" Senators should love that. Force them to stand at the dais and talk the whole time....no breaks allowed...no not even for eating or other bio-functions.

12. That's exactly what calling for cloture would do.

Just do it. Vote. Vote. Vote. McConnell hasn't done shit in 12 fucking years. It's absurd. Just vote. Make them do their job.

5. Filibuster is a statement of needing more debate before voting

As the filibuster is a statement of needing more debate before voting, simply change the rules to require "talking" to hold the floor and hold off a vote.
This doesn't eliminate the filibuster, and is consistent with the idea of more debate to change minds or get information.
The minorities' rights are maintained.

concerns about being exposed to the virus from some windbag Republican who would likely be spewing the virus throughout the chamber during his or her filibuster?

That way, Democratic Congress members can attend to other work at home while they're "attending" the filibuster?

Or do members have to be physically present for a filibuster? Even better! As long as there is the threat of Covid, pass a rule allowing any member not to show up due to Covid concerns. No Congress members, no filibuster.

Make them actually filibuster. Choose a super-popular issue, such as $2000 stimulus checks, and then make them stand and defend their opposition for hours and hours and hours.

10. The Republicans need to have to operate under the rules that they established

If they want to fund the refilling of the empty toilet paper dispenser in the Senate Republican Caucus restrooms, then they are going to have to give up something. Power is only valuable if it is exercised. For the first time in years, will be hearing cries of cooperation and bipartisanship. If the Republicans want some cooperation, they need to start by having the cabinet can Trump before he burns down the country on his way out the door. Let Mike Penis finish out his term.

We don't need to play nice, we need to play tough.

and kill the filibuster. It isn't anywhere in the constitution. It is just a "rule".

However, this is dangerous should Democrats end up in the minority again.

But I think the risk is worth it.

I would love Schumer to tell all 50 repuke assholes "don't bother to show up here anymore, you won't be on any committees, you won't be allowed to question witnesses, you won't be able to call any witnesses. You can vote, but all votes will be 51 - 50 so maybe just go back to your Q-anon anti mask idiots and anti vaxers and keep spreading Covid-19, Covid-20, Covid-21 to all your moron followers.

Won't happen... but I can dream. We have lived with minority rule that basically acted like this for years now. Time for payback.
