The only reason I can think of that there wouldn't be a known pick is that Biden wants Yates but believes she wouldn't make it past a Republican Senate.
I expect Jones will find himself in a position somewhere if Yates is the AG pick.

(317 posts)He is the Chief Justice of the DC Court. Having the Senate control allows Biden to pick a replacement for Garland without Mitchs obstruction.
