The Proud Boy leader who managed to get himself arrested for burning the BLM bannerLast edited Tue Jan 5, 2021, 07:13 AM - Edit history (3)
was caught back in DC this week with 2 high capacity magazines -- and charged with that crime, too. That crime carries a penalty of up to three years in prison and a fine up to $12,500.
I hope they throw the book at him. https://code.dccouncil.us/dc/council/code/sections/7-2507.06.html (4) A person convicted of possessing a large capacity ammunition feeding device in violation of § 7-2506.01(b) shall be fined no more than the amount set forth in § 22-3571.01, or incarcerated for no more than 3 years, or both. https://code.dccouncil.us/dc/council/code/sections/22-3571.01.html (b) An individual who has been found guilty of such an offense may be fined not more than the greatest of: (1) $100 if the offense is punishable by imprisonment for 10 days or less; (2) $250 if the offense is punishable by imprisonment for 30 days, or one month, or less but more than 10 days; (3) $500 if the offense is punishable by imprisonment for 90 days, or 3 months, or less but more than 30 days; (4) $1,000 if the offense is punishable by imprisonment for 180 days, or 6 months, or less but more than 90 days; (5) $2,500 if the offense is punishable by imprisonment for one year or less but more than 180 days; (6) $12,500 if the offense is punishable by imprisonment for 5 years or less but more than one year; https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-55540347 A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department, Dustin Sternbeck, told the Washington Post on Monday that Mr Tarrio had been stopped in a vehicle shortly after it entered the district. The 36-year-old was also found during his arrest to be in unlawful possession of two devices that allow guns to hold additional bullets, a source told CBS News. The destruction of property charge relates to a protest in Washington DC on 12 December in support of the outgoing Republican president's unsubstantiated claims of systemic election fraud. SNIP Mr Tarrio - who lives in Miami, where he also reportedly runs a grassroots organisation called Latinos for Trump - told the Washington Post at the time that he had burned the Black Lives Matter flag. "Let's make this simple," he said. "I did it."

2. Not the sharpest tool in the shed. Made the trip just to get caught...
it seems. He got arrested soon as the car he was in entered the District. Must've been under surveillance and didn't even notice.

16. I wondered about that
Are the D.C. police using some kind of facial identity equipment on cars entering the District? Or was this terrorist under long-term surveillance? Does law enforcement have numerous individuals under surveillance knowing that they could be the trouble makers tomorrow?
Good to see law enforcement is quietly on top of the District's safety. Good job with this one, folks! |

and not just in DC. These guys are playing "tough guy" but they don't know what they're up against.

3. He'll Be Selling T-shirts and Mugs to MAGAs
His lawyers will all be comped. The NRA will hold him up as a poster child. He'll be a martyr to the "cause".
As much as I hate these folks, there's plenty of like-minded people willing to dole out their money to support them. Call me cynical if you like but we've seen too much of this over the years. |

Jail time and fines sends a message.

22. That's not cynicism, just experience.
And it’s a fundraising tool. Eventually the numbers will dry up, and they’ll be forced to rely on the deep pockets of the Koch’s and Mercers. Yes they have plenty but it won’t be as profitable for the loons.
The downside is that this also increases homelessness. That pool of dispossessed seem to want to blame people who want a solution, and reward the authors of their misery. I disagree with people who say there is no “ideological” underpinning to the conservative movement. At the real top, it’s how do we separate the fools from their money. |

11. Tarrio is already a multiple felon, so getting himself arrested w/ high capacity magazines is troubl
https://www.salon.com/2020/12/15/how-did-a-proud-boys-leader-with-a-felony-record-get-into-the-white-house/
In 2013, Tarrio, also known as Henry Tarrio Jr, was convicted of two class C, one class D and one class E felonies for stealing and reselling $1.2 million worth of diabetes test strips from Abbott Labs, and served 16 months in federal prison. Court records show that he was released in December 2014 with two years probation, and ordered to pay restitution for the full $1.2 million. |

wouldn't that now become a Federal crime?

20. He's already a convicted felon,
so having 2 hi cap mags in his possession in Washington DC is a really big no no and he may very well be serving prison time.
We can only hope. |

6. They got him
Before he could follow Trump’s orders and lead violent riots in the streets. They told his followers they’d take away their precious guns also in they showed up here with them. I’m glad they got him.

7. Give him the maximum sentence, and don't let him plea down.
Set his bail at $10,000,000, because he is an ongoing threat to public safety and security.

You can't use an ammo clip to brush your teeth.
Someday, somewhere, there will be a big shootout with these fascists and a lot of them will be hurt and jailed by law enforcement. |

These domestic terrorists threaten our society and our nation. They are far more dangerous than foreign terrorists with the exception, perhaps, of Putin and Russia.

Or are crimes within the District treated similarly to state crimes which are non-pardonable by a president?
I honestly don't know. |

24. The US Attorney for DC has jurisdiction for all felonies committed
within the geographical boundaries of DC. The president can issue pardons for those convicted in WDC.

Dumbass. It'll be interesting to see what his multiple felony priors do to his sentencing this time around.
