We are up at a popular ski resort- one of the few in the South
The crowds are amazing- NO social distancing in site.
I think Fauci was right; I think we are getting ready to see the worst of it.

13. They're a few thousand feet higher than anything in Pennsylvania, and it gets cold
in those NC mountains much earlier than it does in Pennsylvania.
The highest point in Pennsylvania is only a little bit above 3,200 feet. The highest point in NC is over 6,600 feet. List of U.S. states and territories by elevation |

14. Well, I called a rental company to inquire about
cleaning services, etc- and the whole office is out with.....Covid.
The restaurants are packed. It's not that cold here today- about 45 degrees. |

3. Just checked the webcams for ski areas in NM
Angel Fire and Taos are crowded. The rest look pretty sparse. The one outside town here isn't open yet.
I imagine they'll all be open and packed this weekend. |

You may want to mitigate your judgment.

and have not stepped foot out the door except to walk the dog.
We carried our groceries in. |

8. Apologies, then.
Slopes here in the PNW are on a Reservations-only basis; specifically to avoid crowding.

I would have read my post and thought, "oh holy shit, what are YOU complaining about?!"
![]() We are having to come up every few weeks to check on the place- we are not renting to skiers this year because of the possibility of the virus in our little place. |

12. You are correct- and I wrote that upthread
It's so awful up here that we are leaving early--- the crowds are so bad, the streets are not driveable. I have never seen a traffic jam on the mountain.
We were going to visit a grocery store in Boone that carries health food- noped right out of that! I doubt we'll be back except to check things and clean until Spring. |

16. Boone is different, though
I’m guessing you might be in Avery County, which is heavily Republican and full of people who don’t believe in masks or vaccines. However, Boone is vastly different. Boone had a strong mask mandate before most other towns in NC. The vast majority of grocery stores in Boone have been great about masks and social distancing.
Good luck! It IS crowded which is why I got out of town for a quiet, socially distanced holiday. This week is the biggest ski week of the year, btw. |

17. Yep! Avery! But, we have had this place for years
and have NEVER seen anything like this.
We are normally up right now to clean, and replace the dehumidifier stuff because I am on break from work. The problem with going to Boone is that we can't get there. The traffic jams on 105, AND on the mountain, are unreal. We simply cannot get out. |

20. 105 can be a nightmare
Especially when there’s been a little snow, which we had last week.
But 105 is horrible in October and on any Friday afternoon. |

This is different-

24. I should have
We are just blown away at the crowds. We have been coming up here for years, and are used to "big holidays." Freaking NOTHING like this-
Then again, as I wrote- we are just here to clean. I am washing the sheets and towels. Putting in new little dehumidifier things in the closets. |
