The crowds are amazing- NO social distancing in site.
I think Fauci was right; I think we are getting ready to see the worst of it.

The highest point in Pennsylvania is only a little bit above 3,200 feet. The highest point in NC is over 6,600 feet.

The restaurants are packed.
It's not that cold here today- about 45 degrees.

(113,131 posts)Angel Fire and Taos are crowded. The rest look pretty sparse. The one outside town here isn't open yet.
I imagine they'll all be open and packed this weekend.

(1,207 posts)I would have read my post and thought, "oh holy shit, what are YOU complaining about?!"
We are having to come up every few weeks to check on the place- we are not renting to skiers this year because of the possibility of the virus in our little place.

(1,207 posts)It's so awful up here that we are leaving early--- the crowds are so bad, the streets are not driveable. I have never seen a traffic jam on the mountain.
We were going to visit a grocery store in Boone that carries health food- noped right out of that! I doubt we'll be back except to check things and clean until Spring.

(3,351 posts)Im guessing you might be in Avery County, which is heavily Republican and full of people who dont believe in masks or vaccines. However, Boone is vastly different. Boone had a strong mask mandate before most other towns in NC. The vast majority of grocery stores in Boone have been great about masks and social distancing.
Good luck! It IS crowded which is why I got out of town for a quiet, socially distanced holiday. This week is the biggest ski week of the year, btw.

(1,207 posts)and have NEVER seen anything like this.
We are normally up right now to clean, and replace the dehumidifier stuff because I am on break from work.
The problem with going to Boone is that we can't get there. The traffic jams on 105, AND on the mountain, are unreal. We simply cannot get out.

(3,351 posts)Especially when theres been a little snow, which we had last week.
But 105 is horrible in October and on any Friday afternoon.

Hey, we should have a socially distant meetup this summer! I haven't been to a DU meetup in years!

(1,207 posts)We are just blown away at the crowds. We have been coming up here for years, and are used to "big holidays." Freaking NOTHING like this-
Then again, as I wrote- we are just here to clean. I am washing the sheets and towels. Putting in new little dehumidifier things in the closets.
