Prediction: McConnell will prove Trump doesn't have an iron grip on the GOP

I think McConnell is betting that Trumps influence over the Republican Party is far weaker than people believe. Trump is throwing a tantrum saying he might encourage his voters to sit out the special election, especially after Moscow Mitch finally recognized Biden as the president elect and told GOP senators to back down on any plans to challenge congressional certification of the electoral vote. I suspect McConnell will be correct when it turns out that Trump saying that has little to no impact on the senate races and then the GOP will quickly move to wash their hands of Trump. A lot of his have watched Republican voters for decades. They always fall into line. I think Mitch is betting that Trump is all bark and no bite. As soon as they realize Trump isn't an actual threat to the party via his influence with voters, Trump is going to be thrown under the bus without hesitation.

Or Mitch is wrong and the dems take the senate. Kind of win win for us really. Either we get a republican party that looks more like 2013 GOP which is certainly better than whatever the last 4 years were all about. Or Trump destroys the Republicans.

Edit: Also don't think I have a soft spot for McConnell. He's probably the most evil person in the government right now. But he is very good at thinking strategically.

Trump is their monster. Either they destroy him or he destroys them. Good news either way for our side

As soon as he leaves office I suspect his grip will no longer be a factor.

The only people that are loyal to Moscow Mitch are the sugar daddies that own him. If Trump turns on Moscow Mitch and supports a primary challenger, Moscow Mitch is done (although I suppose he is safe for 6 more years, so payback would be a long ways off).

The whining nutjobs will slowly get back to their lives, the PIRV will be "yesterday" and the cowardice currently on display among Rs will fade.
In fact, they should be strategizing to achieve this. This constant fear of being primaried is fatiguing, and pushing influence away from the cult is in their own self-interest.
And, some of them know this.

The unwillingness of GOP controlled state legislatures to intervene in support of Trump any meaningful way was key.

Another sign was that very few Republicans in Congress came out and stated that Trump won.

In most cases, Republican judges, some appointed by Trump himself, looked at the law and paid no attention to what Trump wanted.

Protests held in support of Trump have not been well attended.

I mean, a metaphorical duel on main street at high noon. Mitch might do this, thinking he's got nothing to lose. But he needs the challenge to find out.

Consider the following:

Trump tells his magats to sit out the runoffs. McConnell loses his Majority Leadership.

You think Mitch wont extract an above average price for that? Ohhhh, I do lol.

Just now, yertles likely inclined to talk down notions of punishment for crimes committed, in the interest of 'following bidens lead into a place of 'healing''. Even if it's just bullshit otherwise, it will carry some weight with his members.

But what do you think he will have to say about things like House Judicial and Oversight subpoenas and DOJ investigations if he thinks for a short second that Trump INTENTIONALLY fucked him out of his Majority?

Not a damn word, is what he will say. He will watch those investigations crush Donald Trump and his MAGAts into oblivion with the cold calculation of a hungry velociraptor. And that wrath is something his Senate members will remember for a very long time.

You want Trumpism dead and buried, it isnt the dems that can do it. Piss off McConnell tho, and it will STAY dead after we kill it lol.

(On Edit) that's just my opinion, and YMMV.
