Some friends of mine are hosting 2 sisters from central America @ their house as people
are still trying to reunite them with their mother who is still being held @ the border and
the sisters were one of the ones who were kept in cages too. The family left their home in
central America to flee the violence there. From what I was told the sisters saw their father
murdered in front of them and then their mother tried to flee to America to save her children
from the gang that killed her husband and the girls' father. If they are returned to their native
village they might very well be killed too or subjected to God only knows what kind of abuse.
I met the younger sister yesterday and I can't begin to describe just how damaged she is
and how fearful she is of just about everything. I can speak a little Spanish but just getting
her to say "hola" was very hard to do. She would not smile or make eye contact. I can't
begin to understand the hell she, her sister, and her mother went through and are still going
through now.
There is not a pit in hell deep enough with fires hot enough for Trump and Stephen Miller.
They are monsters of the worst order.
I know that Joe and Kamala have a lot on their plate but from day one we need to rescue
those kids, reunite them with families, and show em love and warmth. We also have to
legalize drugs in order to take the money out of it because that is one of the major parts
of these gangs' businesses.
In a just world the family should be made citizens of America now.
So sorry to ramble but I'm just trying to make sense of the senseless.

(25,111 posts)actually, shithole's administration and republican party is full of hatred for human kind. They lie, cheat, steal and are the most corrupt organization to date. Pro-Life party my arse. They are indeed the opposite.

(219 posts)Miller is just one very, very sick individual, such self-hate is an evil thing. All of his ancestors that were killed in the Nazi gas chambers would be so proud!

(23,499 posts)in many communities. There are also churches that run immigrant and refugee services programs. I know that LIRS, run by Lutherans, and an immigration program in the Disaster Relief agency of the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) help to find homes and legal services for refugees and asylum seekers. You can research them online or ask a Lutheran or Presbyterian minister how to contact them. The Roman Catholic Church also does refugee and immigrant services.
The Catholic Church and PCUSA (Presbyterian Church USA - liberal branch of Presbyterians) both have mission houses in El Paso that accept volunteers. About a year ago, I met a woman who had volunteered at the Catholic mission. We spoke to some groups and several of us planned on traveling there. But covid and Trump's stay in Mexico orders got in the way. I recently spoke with one of the group and as soon as possible, with vaccines and the Biden administration changes, we will plan another trip. We are hoping to get secular groups and congregations to sponsor refugees.

(16,903 posts)from age TWO through 15. Children who don't know anything about Mexico or its people, traumatized children who have been in cages for a long time....... and now they are being deported.
Perhaps Trump is wanting to clean up, i.e., DISAPPEAR his mess before he steps down........ UGH

(7,755 posts)A friend of mine, who adopted two little girls from South America over 20 years ago, fostered a little girl from the "cages" over the summer.
The story she told her was so heartbreaking and horrible that, even now just thinking about it, makes me break down in tears of shame.

(30,938 posts)This has haunted so many of us for these past years; knowing there are children growing up in cages. Everybody made a fuss when it first came out, but Trump et al just didn't care, and then it became just the way it is. The furor died down as the misery for these poor families just went on and on.

(2,541 posts)Permanent stain on America. As details of this comes out as it will in the near future the true horror of what we have done will be appalling and shocking. If the forced hysterectomy stories I have read about are true that is a crime against humanity. DT / Miller / Sessions / Rosenstein and everyone else connected with this atrocity must be held accountable.

(1,402 posts)I have always hated Stephen Miller, he is the worst of the worst and DJT and the creep Mitch McConnell are just like him. Stephen Miller is the Adolph Hitler of today. The Republican party seems to have become the party of mean, vile, hate filled people that care absolutely nothing about other people on this earth. I'm sure Stephen Miller is gleeful at the losses to Covid-19!! That is the way he thinks!!You don't see much of him because he is a behind the scenes dirty worker, up to no good!!

Did family separation start with Sessions? Or higher?

(11,708 posts)3 more lives, probably damaged forever, no matter what the disposition of their case. The two monsters are virtually caricatures...dreadful simulacrums of actual people.
These words from Lyle Lovatt resonate with me, in this moment.
"As I sit here, safe at home
With a cold Coors Lite and the TV on..."
Although they were meant to be words of self-criticism, I hope that family gets to have moments like that.

(12,074 posts)It is real and its intentional. God bless your friends for opening their hearts and their home for the sisters. There are so many more caring and compassionate Americans, however, the cancer among us that is Trumpism is an ugly pervasive reality many of us never realized. We must be ever vigilant in our efforts to face it head on and do everything we can to eradicate it. Evil never takes a day off. If/when they permit it, lots of hugs will facilitate the healing process for the girls. Please keep us posted with their progress.

(2,412 posts)As a retired ESL Migrant Teacher, I have been angry for years over the mistreatment of my students and their families. This is a shame on our nation which we must remediate!!!!!! I want President Biden to find those families, reunite them, give them a pathway to citizenship and some cash reparations. This is a stain on our country!

(7,101 posts)This is how to grow terrorists. Use the governments overwhelming power to dehumanize young people.
When they are older, they will wage war against everything in authority. Except, usually, their twisted concept of a God/deity/king/cult-leader authority.
Old-fashioned way (among cultured families): Virtually spoil kids rotten in their early ages 1-5. Teach them unconditional love, of course teach them about danger.
After that, youre on your own. LOL Kids were practically adults after that in ancient days.
But under Trump we did it exactly the wrong way. His way produces offspring like Junior, Eric, Vanky, and Tiff. Do I have to say more?

(14,911 posts)And while I cannot do anything about pits of hell, no matter how well deserved that might be, we can certainly strongly advocate the closure of these concentration camps, enforcing the immigration laws against employers who hire undocumented people and exploit them at below-minimum. We can also begin to hold people like Miller and those ICE agents, as well as cruel private for-profit concentration camp guards, accountable for these crimes.
To do what we did here is a dark stain on this republic, a republic that has yet to even come to terms with genocide and slavery.

(16,090 posts)It sounds very much like that bestseller "American Dirt". If you haven't already read it, I would recommend it to DUers. The story grabs you immediately on page one and it is extremely intense.
Of all the evil this administration has foisted on our country, this has got to be the worst thing that was done in our names.
This is heartbreaking, Botany, and such a tiny sample of the whole horrific picture.

I can think of a fitting punishment but it's not the sort I'd publish. People responsible for these outrages are wicked through and through.
