I would like to see Biden announce his pick for Post Master General

It will give the current occupant plenty of time to clean out his desk.

1. And, hopefully, get ready for some prosecution for federal offenses.

3. Postmaster isn't a cabinet member- it's like the FBI director I think

Although it might be harder for Biden to fire DeJoy directly.

17. If Trump gave him the job

Why can't Biden just fire him the same way? Like, "Don't bother showing up for work on Monday?"

Maybe Joe could send him to a post office in, say, Alaska? Can Joe say where the office is?

4. Unfortunately, the Postmaster General is not appointed by the President

but by the USPS Board of Governors, all of whom are Trump appointees.

9. If they are Trump appointees does that mean

Biden can fire them?

10. No, they have a set term that expires on a certain date. One expires in

December, and that is one of the 2 Democrats (it is bipartisan by law). None of the others expire before December 2021, and most later than that. So it seems we are stuck with them for a while, unless they choose to resign.

16. You're kidding?!

No, I believe you. I just find it hard to see that Biden can't fix this problem before December 2021. Maybe he can impose some rigorous penalties for not doing what he wants?

I want him to follow the law, but I want DeJoy GONE. I want our postal front line warriors (on whom I totally depend, by the way) to be happy, healthy, and content.

It just infuriates me...

18. They need to be strongly encouraged to resign immediately.

Or expect problems.

20. DeJoy should be investigated and hounded from office

Make his life so miserable he will resign...unless, of course, he can be indicted.

5. I read this article a few weeks ago:

Donald Trump will be gone, but Postmaster Louis DeJoy might stick around
If President-elect Joe Biden hopes to repair the damage caused by the Trump administration, finding a way to dump DeJoy would be a big step.

By CST Editorial Board Nov 11, 2020, 4:57pm CST

https://chicago.suntimes.com/2020/11/11/21561226/donald-trump-gone-but-postmaster-louis-dejoy-might-stick-around

snip...

As president, Joe Biden will no doubt do his best to fumigate the federal government but he could be stuck with at least one big pest for years to come: U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.

DeJoy, the Trump loyalist who purposely delayed the nationís mail service to satisfy his bossí desire to suppress mail-in balloting from Democratic voters, was named to the spot last year by the postal serviceís Board of Governors. You might hope that the board, under Biden, would appoint somebody better.

But a majority of the boardís members, four, are Trump appointees, and their terms extend well into the years of the Bidenís administration.

So unless he resigns, DeJoy, a major GOP fundraiser, will remain postmaster general ó and have a free hand for the 2022 midterms, supported by a governing board that backed him as he yanked sorting equipment from postal facilities, removed public mailboxes and suspended overtime pay in advance of this monthís elections.

8. Well investigations into his

actions could produce proof of crimes, and that should pretty much end his job, I would think.

21. There are five openings, plus one expiring in 2021, so perhaps DeJoy can be removed. Nt

6. When, if ever (except in this past year)

have we ever known or noticed the name of the Postmaster General? I can't recall, but I'm pretty sure in my case, never. Until DeJoy.
Nice guys don't make headlines.

7. He will be indicted for election law violations....

Soliciting campaign donations from employees then paying them back is a violation of the law. There are multiple current and former employees who have already publicly stated that this happened. Dejoy will be going down with little actual joy.

19. If I remember correctly previous PM Generals were former Post Office employees.

That needs to be a requirement in the future.
