She said we lost congress. Wrong. We did not lose our Democratic Majority. Our majority held.
WATCH: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Says Shes Upset By Loss of Democratic House Majority Which is Not a Thing That Happened
By Tommy ChristopherNov 14th, 2020, 10:22 am
But Democrats, while they did lose a lot of seats, have secured their majority with projected wins in 219 seats. Its literally the first result when you Google Democratic House majority.
Ocasio-Cortez did not appear to notice or correct her error during the balance of her lengthy response:

She misspoke and did not correct herself.

(3,632 posts)I still like her forthrightness, but she needs to correct herself when she's wrong or she'll lose those of us who care what people say. Thanks for the informative post. I appreciate it. Things have to be right.

Astute observers know that these tweets have no effect and are quite useless.
They effect no change whatsoever nor will they change a single mind. As we can see, the real audience for the tweets is quite different.
Hermit-The-Prog
(33,259 posts)Your statement, "They effect no change whatsoever nor will they change a single mind.", is unprovable and appears to be a grand overreach.
We would have no reason to have campaigns, debates, discussions, or elections, if that statement were true.
AmericanCanuck
(1,102 posts)Tweets are meaningless except for the few who like to see what they would like to hear - that is evident here.
Hermit-The-Prog
(33,259 posts)Whether you like AOC or not, what she said may reach many people who otherwise haven't stopped to think about the effects of the actions of McConnell and the GOP Senators. She has a sizeable audience. Many in that audience are actively trying to inform and motivate others. This is a good thing, not bad.

(1,102 posts)and getting some legislation passed instead of trying to make tweets that sound good to a subset of people. There are far more successful congresspersons who have introduced and shepherded a lot more legislation in 2 years and who have tweeted very little.
Edited to add - I don't disagree with anything in that tweet. It is known by most people already.

(16,076 posts)must always, in every case, criticize AOC. Doesn't matter what she does or says, she's got to be wrong.
If she said "The grass is green", these people would come back with some sort of criticism about that and how it is wrong for her to even mention grass because some people are allergic to pollen.
I find it refreshing that she speaks out and up.
AmericanCanuck
(1,102 posts)Yes ... there is a subset of people who will bounce with joy to "The grass is green" and exalt the tweeter to the level of Aristotle or Buddha for saying it. It is a bit silly.
Bettie
(16,076 posts)Or is it that you don't think women are smart enough to use twitter AND be congresspersons?
AmericanCanuck
(1,102 posts)... they get less credit than someone who tweets and the tweet goes viral to the supporters who think the person who tweeted is the only one who thought of it and cares about it.
Like I said above, I fully agree with the content of the tweet.

(6,829 posts)There happens to be a special election for Senate seats in Georgia and 2 Senate Republicans are on the spot.
Highlighting their inaction, especially by the young charismatic AOC who attracts the attention of young potential voters, is helpful. Very helpful.

(18,187 posts)I'm not sure what "dismissed the Senate" means, but the Senate will reconvene this Monday, as will the House.
I trust Speaker Pelosi, Leader Schumer, Vice President-elect Harris, and President-elect Biden to plan and strategize the push for aid during the lame duck session in Congress.
