Pending legislation in France's parliament would create a new criminal offense for publishing images of police officers with intent to cause them harm. Offenders would face a maximum penalty of up to one year in prison and a 45,000-euro ($53,000) fine.

1. "Publishing with the intent to cause them harm" is pretty vague.

2. The prequel to the watchmen series

If you can’t ban the pictures they will mask up the policemen.

3. Protests are almost always somewhere between disastrously counterproductive and worthless.

This is the Internet age. Protests don't tend to attract rhetorically skilled, persuasive, leader types. The videos from the protests hit the Internet and work fantastically – to sell the position of the protesters' opponents. Protest amounts to an extremely bad form of argument for good causes and, often (as with MAGA rallies) a good argument for bad causes.
