GOP Senators Get Stark Reminder Of Their Previous 'Let The Voters Decide' Demands

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Friday reminded Senate Republicans of their calls to “let the voters decide” the fate of President Donald Trump when they voted to acquit him of impeachment charges earlier in the year.

Hayes accused the vast majority of Republican senators of being “complicit participants” with their silence on the president’s “feeble attempt to subvert the election.”

He aired a montage of GOP senators — including Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Ted Cruz (Texas) and Marco Rubio (Fla.) — saying in February that they did not support removing Trump from office at that time because it should be up to the American people to decide in November.

“OK. ... We had an election,” said Hayes. “The voters decided. And so now all those senators should be showing some deference, some respect for the decision.”

He has no tolerance for republican bullshit.

5. I'm going to put my GOP spin cap on:

"Well, that was then, this is now. I've heard troubling reports of voter fraud which must be thoroughly investiagted before we can make any conclusion about the presidential election."

See how easy that was?

Seriously though, good post expsoing Republican hypocrisy.

17. One would think that the reanimated corpse of Hugo Chavez would have much larger goals than...

rigging the U.S. presidential election.

That's a complete waste of supernatural super power.

24. You know the Hugo Chavez interfering part makes perfect sense.

Trying some Q like logic here.

If Hugo Chavez interfered with the US election that means that:

Chavez is risen from the dead.

If Chavez is risen from the dead that means:

He's the second coming of Christ.

If this is the second coming and Chavez is opposing Donald Trump then:

Donald Trump is the Anti-Christ.

I knew it!

To highlight their hipocracy.

I think many of them know that the people decided, but don't want to alienate or infuriate 45 and his cult base by congratulating Biden.

They are slime.

7. Merrick Garland: "Let the Voters Decide"

Impeachment: "Let the Voters Decide"

Amy Coney Barrett: "Fuck the Voters".

Not a single Republican has a moral or ethical compass. They simply say what's expedient for them at the moment. Their base doesn't mind, as long as they're sticking it to the libs.

They'll just stare right through you when a normal human being wouldn't be able to make eye contact out of embarrassment. The turtle will even work up a grin.

sadly enough, as we have seen.

They just want their white privileged voters to have that right. All others need not apply.

15. The GOP doesn't care. I know that we care.

I hope the independents and other people in the electorate care. But I don’t know that they do.

One of our friends rants and raves about the hypocrisy of the GOP. “They say one thing and do another,” he says. “They’re just big hypocrites.”

And my reply is the same. “And this surprises you? When are you going to stop expecting the GOP to do the right thing?”

I’m tired of people marveling about how hypocritical the party is. Not because it’s not true, but because it is a waste of time.

He then talks about how the parties got along and how the GOP used to be different. He’s 61, and perhaps he has experienced a different GOP.

I am in my late forties, and my experience seeing how the GOP operates has been consistent. They are dishonorable, lying and destructive cowards. They’re more showy about it now, but they’re the same at the core. It just different degrees of assholery.

20. Now what? Pour PAC and other money into voting the henchmen the hell out. Even in red states.

Run good Democrats hard against them.

If Dems can't sell the arguments they've already won NOW, they never will. But not for lack of trying. But because 73 million haven't the self esteem and intelligence enough to care about their children's future.

So let's move on. Isn't that what you told the American people in 2016?

27. Republicans do not believe the part about "consent from the governed".

Conservative ideology is the direct descendent of Royalist sentiment. The founders of the conservative thought process were all defenders of Monarchy. As monarchy as a direct governing structure was replaced, they had to pick a new method of establishing "divine right". They chose wealth as their new marker of worthiness, but they never abandoned the idea that people were inherently unequal and that right to "rule" or govern is not derived by the people, but by virtue of the rulers.

This is why Republicans do not seem to be bothered with the idea of democracy. Democracy is not a factor in their attribution of the right to govern. They are steeped in the idea that the "right kind of people" have basically a god ordained authority to rule. Given that the authority is beyond that of people, especially the rabble; rules and rule breaking, hypocrisy, and general disdain for the voices of others is not something that bothers them.
