He's meeting with Michigan Republicans tomorrow. His demands are simple. In swing states, he wants Reublican legislators to remove their electors, install Trump loyalists, and declare him the winner in those states.
And because overturning the will of voters is unconstitutional, the remedy for this is Congress, and because it would end up in McConnell's lap, as long as they stay in lock step, there's really nothing that can be done about it.
Correct?

(669 posts)Michigan law,for example, requires electoral votes goes to who gets the most votes. The legislature has no role in selecting electors in PA and WI.

(52,196 posts)they will ask legislatures to overturn elections in states where that may be possible (if they already have a law on the books that lets them step in in the case of a disputed election). well, they'll ask, whether it's legal or not.
when that fails, they will move on to bribing and/or threatening electors to try to deprive biden of the magic 270 electoral votes needed to become president.
if that happens, then the house decides (the senate picks the vice president) but it's one vote per state delegation, so republicans win and donnie is president for another four years.
but it's obviously not close enough to steal. no one's going for it outside the loony tunes inner circle and diehard loyalists. real republican politicians aren't going to risk their entire career and reputation on such a longshot coup attempt.
one state, they can steal, they did it in 2000.
three states, no. they can't steal three states. too obvious.

(9,696 posts)They won't care if it's illegal or just unethical. The ends justifies the means.
I don't know how they would try to do it, but I know they are dead serious about overturning this election. Everything they are doing, even the ghuliani antics are all towards this end - overturning the election and holding onto power.
Laughing at the Total Landscaping event misses the point all together. That event eclipsed other news for a couple days. For the wrong reasons, but all the low information voter hears is "voter fraud" over and over.
They're serious, and they aren't giving up.

(853 posts)The are a named set of electors for each candidate. The set of electors are chosen by the most votes attained by a candidate in each state. When you vote, you are voting for a group of electors, not the candidate.
The Constitution permits the electors to be chosen how each state wants. State legislatures can, constitutionally, select what ever group of electors it chooses. "Overturning the will of the voters" is not unconstitutional, see: Gore and Clinton. The House chose Jefferson over Burr. A special committee chose Hayes over Tilden.

(11,631 posts)Don't see how anyone on either side wants them to succeed. But they seem perfectly ok with allowing the farce to drag on long enough to secure the senate.
