Open Letter to Donald J. Trump
Mr. Trump:
You lost. Accept that fact and get on with the transition of power. You know that you did a horrible job of being President of the United States. You neglected your duties, ignored the worst pandemic in our nation's history, and blocked all avenues to get it under control. You encouraged your followers to skip wearing masks and advised them against taking sensible health precautions. The result is a quarter of a million dead American citizens, with more to come.
Again and again, you ignored your duties and your oath. We watched you do exactly that. You allowed your petulant, childish narcissism to influence your decisions in all areas of our federal government. You hired incompetent or malicious toadies to fill crucial positions and fired competent leaders, in order to take your revenge on those you believed to be your "enemies."
You single-handedly sullied the reputation of our nation among the other nations of the world and alienated our allies, while emboldening our adversaries. Because of that, the world is far less safe than it was when you took office. You willfully did the bidding of Vladimir Putin, who wishes ill on our nation. Shame on you, Sir!
You are an utter disgrace to your high office. So, despite your efforts and the efforts of people like Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham, the voters of the United States voted for Joe Biden to replace you. He won by over 5 million votes and 306 electoral votes. When you received 306 electoral votes in 2016, you called it a landslide and gloated. Now, you call that same margin a hoax and Fake News. Do you not realize how ridiculous you appear to be?
Your term in office ends on January 20, 2021, and good riddance to you.
In closing, I offer you some advice. You committed a number of federal crimes during your term in office. If prosecuted and convicted for those crimes, you will spend the rest of your life in a federal prison. You can avoid that by resigning immediately. Mike Pence, your Vice President, will become President when you resign, and can pardon you, just like Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon.
That pardon will not protect you against prosecution in various states for your crimes in those states, but you would at least avoid federal prosecution. Resign now. That is my final advice to you. Do not delay. Resign today.
