Has the republican party terrified and of all their bullshit I think in back of their minds they see VP Harris being elected president in 2024
Just my opinion.

(8,657 posts)The worst opponent we can have in 2024 is an articulate Trump style GOP'er who knows how to control themselves eloquently.
Trump has shown how far they can get away with stuff......they will all be trying to be Trump in 2024.

I think a good number of people that supported Trump are those that liked his trashy side .

(62,513 posts)The reason Trump appealed to some Republicans is that he was just a total piece of shit. The Religious fanatics of course would over look it because he's Republican, but the other sick ones, the pervs, the grab 'em by the pussy types, they had someone they could finally identify with. Big beer belly sexual assault misogynistic types.

I'm so excited about all of the shining stars we have right now. I feel a big change for the better coming.

(10,521 posts)If Joe decides not to run in 2024 then yes Kamala will be a strong frontrunner. However any Democrats running in 2022 and 2024 will face a re-energized GOP and it might be better for the party to have Joe in 2024 - incumbent presidents who don't screw things up royally tend to get reelected. But I have no crystal ball, can't tell the future.
One thing I can say though is that the Democratic Party had better get its Get Out The Vote machinery into top gear in 2022 as Republicans will be very motivated - with or without former president Donald Trump helping out.

(5,825 posts)Biden signals to aides that he would serve only a single term
While the option of making a public pledge remains available, Biden has for now settled on an alternative strategy: quietly indicating that he will almost certainly not run for a second term while declining to make a promise that he and his advisers fear could turn him into a lame duck and sap him of his political capital.
~~~~
By signaling that he will serve just one term and choosing a running mate and Cabinet that is young and diverse, Biden could offer himself to the Democratic primary electorate as the candidate best suited to defeat Trump as well as the candidate who can usher into power the partys fresh faces.
(47,834 posts)him, and if they did, anyone supporting the primary opponent will be quickly banned via hides, I would assume (or by the owners/MIRT). I cannot see this place being very friendly to anyone who supports the challenger.
Where it gets dicey is if Biden chooses to not run. A holy war may kick off between Harris supporters and supporters of other candidates. I am DEFFO staying the hell out the primaries forum if that happens. Do not need that level of argy bargy. Nope nope nope. All I would wish is that she picked Pete for her VP.
(47,834 posts)At that point he could step down and Harris could assume the POTUS and because it is one day less than 2 years of the term left, she could still run twice (for two full terms). Technically it could be on January 20th (as it says MORE than two years), but 1 extra day seems fair just to play it safe from some inane court challenge.
Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution
Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.
Section 2. This Article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several states within seven years from the date of its submission to the states by the Congress.
(20,328 posts)and he could resign "for health reasons." Kamala Harris would then take over as president, and would be eligible to run as incumbent in both 2024 and 2028.
ETA: Or, Joe could win re-election in 2024, then resign on January 21, 2027. Kamala Harris could then run as incumbent in both 2028 and 2032. In that scenario, Democrats hold the White House for at least 16 years.
(5,785 posts)I mean technically, all I see are eggs but lets go ahead and count them anyway.
It is folly to think that the road is that open for us. Biden is stepping into an extraordinarily challenging time with a broken government, shattered economy, ongoing pandemic and divided Congress. Hes got 2 years to fix a lot of things before the midterms where the fickle electorate will have the chance to punish us for not fixing things fast enough like they always do.
Lets focus on the near term and actually be worthy of anything further down the road.
(997 posts)Envision a scenario in which 2022 doesn't go well for the party and Biden decides not run in 2024. Could be an ugly primary process and finger pointing for losses in the midterm for those who were in power.
Odds are it won't but 4 years is a long time in politics and a lot can happen.
