There must be swift and severe consequences for . . .

There must be swift and severe consequences for the Republican Party’s attempted overthrow of our democracy.

What those consequences are and how they ought to be delivered?

That's an open question.

Should not be overlooked

They'll try it again

A lot of these players are from the Nixon years

They have patience and perseverance

If they are allowed to slide they'll be back

We can be swift and severe. Use the system to beat itself. Airing our voices to the people we elect is the fastest route. With enough voices behind us things accelerate.

So, you're asking how to fell on a national level when we don't even do it locally? Sycophants will fall on their swords subordinates will crumble before the enablers are held to account. Maybe it's nimby time. Maybe we're the problem.

pursue any and all illegal activities, following the evidence where ever it leads.

No Ford style pardon of Trump "to close the chapter" on this horrific episode. No "let's move on and let bygones be bygones" if actual crimes have been committed.

Did Trump and associates violate the Hatch Act?

Was money illegally siphoned off from the Trump inaugural fund?

Were appointments made based on any sort of quid pro quo that violated the law?

Were federal contracts awarded (for instance, for border wall construction) in violation of standard legal procedure?

Did the president's family and associates use the office of the presidency to enrich themselves in ways that violated the law?

Was intelligence improperly handled?

Did Republican leaders use insider information about the pandemic to enrich themselves?

I'm sure there are other aspects of this regime's corruption that need to be investigated.

In addition, there should be Congressional hearings on the response to the pandemic. And local jurisdictions, such as the Southern District of New York, should be given the scope and the resources needed to investigate violations of state law.
