Yes, Dems lost House seats, but that is more because of the 2010 Midterms than it is about policy.
2010-the disaster we are still paying for.
2010 was a Census Year.
After we abandoned President Obama, and surrendered 2/3rd of the Statehouses to tri-corner hat dipshits, the Retrumplicans used surgical precision to gerrymander the everloving fuck out of states EVERYWHERE that they could.
Remember, this was a multi-billion dollar Koch funded effort designed to ensure Retrumplican control of statehouses and the House of Representatives for generations.
They so gerrymandered the fuck out of Ohio, for example, that the Retrumplicans could win 50.1% of the statewide vote and get 86% of the states representation.
Some states have managed to fix some of that through legislation and litigation, but we are still playing on that tilted 2010 field.
If Retrumplicans turn out, the 2010 maps were always designed to ensure Retrumplican wins.
This goes a long way to explain the somewhat difficult day Dems in the House had on Tuesday.
My point being...Don't ever stay home for any election...including county Dogcatcher, AND
NEVER STAY HOME AND SKIP ANY ELECTION WHERE THE YEAR ENDS IN ZERO!
Another way to look at this is to look at the 2018 Midterms. Dems won nationally by over 10 million votes. Under fair maps, that should have resulted in a 60-70 seat gain. Dems barely won 40.
Don't let them set the narrative. They are going to try to use the House results to claim 2020 was a disaster for the Dems.
The real disaster was2010.

(13,076 posts)we had to overwhelm them to win this in a squeaker.
i believe the polls have always been right tracking voter intention.
but the best intention doesnt guarantee you get a vote that counts.
I fault Obama with 2 big failings.
1) Letting Ws criminals go free ie. look forward not back. They always come back to fuck you again. And did.
2) Not making maximum effort to fix the voting processes. It was badly broken and has been broken even more.

(14,971 posts)Republicans who hadnt voted for years scurried out from under their rocks and voted a straight party ticket. Thats why we lost seats this time but gained in 2018. And its not economics that drives Trump voters but white identity politics.

(14,559 posts)Donald Trump pulls every cock roach in the country out to vote him, and THAT is what swung races in split or r leaning house districts AND in states like Iowa and Maine where we had a shot at incumbent R senators.

(3,490 posts)IF we stop using the terms socialism and defund the police. That nonsense cost us the Senate and seats in the house. Keep it up Dems, and well lose more seats in 22.
We have a chance to bury the GOP. Stop messing it up with foolish talk.

(9,257 posts)Biden won my county but a horrible number split the ticket to put the Repug back in Congress. He had some really ugly ads about you wont be safe with (dem) she supports the radical left and defunding the police! with a backdrop of riots. I think a lot of people who might have been on the fence about Trump were swayed by the law and order crap. We HAVE to improve our message on that.

(1,704 posts)In addition to the gerrymandering, Joke is ignoring the impact of the massive voter purges. Greg Palast has been harping on this for years.
You didnt hear this in the cable TV chatter: In the two years leading up to this election, Georgias GOP secretary of state quietly wiped away the voter registrations of 198,351 voters based on false information.
Call it The Great Purge overwhelmingly wiping away the voting rights of young voters and voters of color. In other words, voters who might be more likely to vote blue.

(1,896 posts)Come Monday your friend will have never been a Trump supporter. He's just another honest and hard working American who has always stood up for what is right. MSNBC is the neighbor who didn't, honestly, didn't call animal control because your dog got out and sat in his driveway. MSNBC is the clerk who knows the scanned items in your cart are on sale but says nothing as the price rings up. MSNBC is the family stopped in the narrow doorway exchanging greetings while 200 people stand waiting on the concourse. MSNBC is the official reviewing your submitted paperwork and telling you that you're missing a document, and upon return tells you you're still missing one. MSNBC is an awkward preteen who knows more than you do. MSNBC is worthless.

(92,061 posts)an incumbent is always tough for a challenger
I guess he is ignoring our Senate victory in Colorado also
Having an election during a pandemic is also a formidable challenge, along with the civil unrest due to the two systems of justice
What is Scarborough basing it on? We still have the majority in the House, and the Senate is still a question
With all the overt voting suppression occurring from the USPS, to removing drop boxes and limiting polling places etc. what the Democrats did is amazing under the circumstances
and it bodes well for us in the future
