But look at Texas and how that is changing every 2-4 years. It wont be long before that is not a reliably red state. (Still somewhat hopeful that will be this year but I havent seen updated numbers for Tx).

Maybe Trumpers are too hard to listen to. Then we should at least find some independent and see why they lean republicans.
Personally, I think we are a bit weak on economic message. We could hammer controlling COVID leads to opening economy and getting everyone back up and running. But instead, we only focus on the deaths. I am not saying deaths aren't important. But like the first debate, Biden only talked about COVID in the public health aspect and completely ignored the economic aspect. He did much better at the second debate and the other town halls but he (and us as well as a whole party) should place more emphasis on economic issues.

(4,845 posts)Trump went from polling 60/40 to 51/49 on the economic issue. I just think we need to hammer it harder and people will start trusting us on the economic issue. We just focus a lot more (maybe it's the media directing it) social issue and less on economic issues. Trust me, I think we are actually the ones with the economic plans. But general public has this wrong impression that republicans are better. It needs us doing better on our messaging.
Like I said, attack Trump's non-COVID response not only on causing 230k deaths. But also that it's preventing us from reopening our economy and getting back to a "new normal" life. We would feel much better going out if our COVID infection rate is under 1% rather than 20%+. I just don't see any democrats (on the media or in debates) making these arguments. You have to spell it out to people so they can connect the dots.

(9,442 posts)what that horrible orange monster has done during the past 4 years. How can anybody think our country is doing well under his lack of leadership? He's morally corrupt. He has absolutely no integrity. There is nothing good about him...nothing.

(12,344 posts)We think people are better than they really are. They see what's wrong with Trump, it just doesn't bother them. We tend to get all moralistic about why they do it. But when half the country is okay with it, moralism is pointless. They are going to do it whether you approve or not.

(1,580 posts)These people are voting to get rid of social security, medicare, ACA, and any number of other things. Plus, they are voting for herd immunity and continued extraction of wealth from the middle class and the poor by the overly privileged.

(16,844 posts)After all the shit Trump has pulled in the past 4 years, there are still this many people who want to see more of it. I understand now why the White House has been fortified and all of those businesses in large cities have been boarded up. This is going to be another really close election, and there are going to be some very angry people, regardless of the outcome. This isn't going to be over for days, and I'm not liking the vibe I'm getting this time.
