The nerves, the jitters, the hopeful expectations - seen it all before. This is my fifth presidential election at DU and I'm not even a US citizen!
No matter how intense and ultra-focused we are on DU, there is a broad and varied electorate that just wants rid of this guy. They are quiet, don't participate in online forums or groups and just simply vote with their conscience; they do what is right.
That silent electorate has had enough of Trump and his malarkey. They want a return to the world that is safe, reliable and predictable.
I feel grieviously for you my US friends, for the past four years of outrages to decency, for the wontless cruelty and the destruction of polite and considerate society. You have spent four years looking into the abyss....
You will rejoice in a few days time.

I believe Joe, Kamala and their new administration will settle a lot of nerves around the globe....

(17,149 posts)Are waiting to *normalise relations with the US. Waiting to return to a normal level of communication and co-operation. This term has been a dirty stain on the history of the US but will be over soon.

(5,928 posts)Won't they always have to fear a return of this horrifying "Mr. Hyde" side of our national personality now that they've looked into its cruel and ugly face?
Perhaps the worst part of this nightmare for me, on a personal level, has been the way this hitherto-concealed ugliness has been revealed to me in the friends and family members in whom I never suspected it lay hidden. I will never be able to un-see and un-know what they have shown me about themselves.

(209 posts)The world knows that US exceptionalism is BS. Our vote (whatever it entails or amounts to) may seal that deal. Please, keep our forefathers' small experiment in mind when perfecting the next version.
