This makes so much sense. Shouldn't have to be the case, but given the unfortunate reality, whatever can potentially save a life is well worth it.

They put in cell phone and cup holders, the auto makers can put in a little removable sleeve for the documents.

Type up the same text, put it in a ziplock along with your license, registration, insurance card. You just have to remember to take it with you when you leave your car and put it back when you return. It is a great idea.

Law enforcement should be able to access license and registration remotely.

Learned it in Driver's Ed - keep everything there, there's usually a pocket or strap, and if you get pulled over, switch the dome light on if it's dark, take the envelope down, and rest both hands on the top of the steering wheel. No other moves. Granted, I'm the Whitest Kid You Know, but even I've always had a healthy distrust of cops.

I keep them clearly visible, loosely resting on the top of the wheel with the envelope in one hand, and I've never had a problem - but I can absolutely understand how one would feel the safer option would be to put them out of the car.
