I've hesitated to post this at all because of my dismay, but if you remember him, be advised that he died on July 26. He was a friend I met via DU--an amazing computer code architect and musician (pianist) from Austin, TX.

(24,128 posts)So he wound up playing keyboards around Austin while working for Dell and other companies later. He supported the Dean and Obama campaigns and wrote to me about distributing Obama yard signs in his neighborhood--probably to the chagrin of the girlfriend he had at the time.

(38,309 posts)I have a garage full of antique computers, but I only dream of being a musician.
And yeah, in regards to the OP, GD is the better place to post this. I think more people will remember here.
Peace.

(24,128 posts)He made his pilgrimage to the Santa Fe National Forest (outside of Pecos) and Valle Vidal almost every September for decades. He was surprised when it snowed up there in September. Wife #1, wife #2, and then a girlfriend on his latest trip a few years ago... Hey, if you were with MazeRat7, you were bound for New Mexico mountain camping in September!
He was very cold when I took him to Bosque del Apache during the winter of 2007 though. I warned him about the cold, but he was a Texan, after all...

(8,322 posts)It may have been one of those occasional DU meetups, or perhaps a gathering at the state convention. I recall that about half a dozen or so of us -- sonja, GOPisEvil, IIRC -- all met on 6th and ate and then cruised down to a little bar where he was playing with his band.
We didn't spend much time getting to know one another, but it was obvious to me that his was an old soul.
RIP.
