Trump would have not debated if he had some grand, hidden plan to steal the election.

He wouldn't be desperately trying to cobble together conspiracy theories that fall apart overnight. Trump is a lot like the schoolkid who waits until the last possible minute to do the project he's had six months to get done, on topics he's not paid attention to in class. Everyone keeps fearing that he's going to pull a miracle out of his butt at the last minute, but given the ineptness he's shown thus far, there is no evil plan ... only incompetence.
