Biden's debate strategy is to let Trump be Trump

Former Vice President Joe Biden's strategy for the final debate on Thursday evening: Get out of the way.

Biden and his team believe President Trump has done damage to his own campaign in recent weeks, a sentiment they see as being reflected in national and battleground state polls that show the Democrat with a lead.

Their plan in the final presidential debate is to do nothing more than to underline the contrast between Biden and Trump, and to avoid any mistakes.

"Why would we change anything?" one Biden ally close to the campaign said, when asked if Biden would try to do anything differently from the last debate in September. "We're going to be prepared to have the kitchen sink thrown at us but the VP needs to continue to do what he's been doing."

Yep. Let him completely unravel on national television. He doesn't need help to do that. captain queeg Oct 2020 #8

So his unhingeness will be even more off the scale.

Biden will pickup from where he left it the last time. Race over (if not already!) in about 24 hours!

In 2016, I was so insecure at this point in the race. This one has been a real pleasure.

Probably not but it’s a possibility. He’s a bad judge of his own performance so if he thinks he’s scoring points by bullying he’ll hang in there.

I hope the moderator doesn’t fall into the trap of overcompensating by being tougher on Biden in an effort to prove she’s not delivering softballs to Biden and being overly harsh on Trump (as Trump and his campaign keeps whining about before the debate even starts.). Classic manipulation to whine about a moderator’s alleged “bias” ahead of time to get them to tilt harder the other way versus being the same to both sides.

I was really expecting trump to bail on this last debate but looks like it’ll happen. Maybe I’ll have to watch. I’m sure trump is getting some reasonable advice about how to act, which he’ll completely ignore (because he’s smarter than anyone else). Is it going to be a town hall format?
