If pundits started speculating of what he could be hiding - and there are all kinds of reasons from embarrassing to criminal - for their not being released.

The ONLY way he's going to release them is if the narrative looks WORSE without the returns. That will cause him to release them to prove his innocence.

So let's speculate as to what might be the reason he has not released them.

examples:

- what if he took advantage of the 2009 Amnesty program for offshore criminal tax evasion? He'd have been smart to do so, and amnesty is amnesty, so there's no chance of criminal prosecution...but it would show that he was engaging in criminal tax evasion for years.

- what if he's hiding them because he use completely legal loopholes to get his tax rate down so low that it would cause people to pick up pitchforks and run him out of town?

- what if they show he lied about his time at BAIN, and that he filed federal forms with deliberate misinformation?

- what if some of his profits came from ethically questionable activities?

THERE HAS TO BE SOME STORY OUT THERE THAT ROMNEY WOULD BE SO APPALED BY THAT HE'D JUST RELEASE THEM.

THE "NO COMPASSION" NARRATIVE CAUSED HIM TO TOUT OUT ROMNEYCARE (his worst attribute to his base) because he'd rather be seen as compassionate than as a cold uncaring scrooge.

SO WHAT THINGS CAN WE THINK OF THAT WOULD MAKE RELEASING THE TAX RETURNS THE BETTER OPTION??

We know he invested in Stericycle, a medical waste disposal firm that picks up aborted fetuses. It doesn't look to have hurt him.

Let's see...

He prob. did do amnesty. If he did, he only need say something like 'we were not aware of any wrongdoing but participated to keep the govt from harassing us in the future. The biggest part of Romney's base makes John Malkovich's character in Red look sane and rational. Taking amnesty to thwart the black helis would make him a hero in their eyes.

As long as he keeps flogging the loopholes as donations to his church this one will help him too. We ran a letter from someone who thinks Romney is a wonderful man because he gave $2.5M or whatever it was to the Mormon church. If Romney made $2.51 million and gave $2.5M of it to the church he would be a sain?. When you make $30M, things are a bit different - did he even notice the $2.5M being gone?

True criminality, or paranoia, are my guesses, and we know he makes Nixon look rational.

so he cannot manipulate the numbers to get a 13% tax rate! Which means he definitely didn't pay more than 13% each year for the past 10 years. Also we would see all his swiss and cayman accounts that he has since hidden.

He's using these tax loopholes to the fullest! He's a sham, a crook and tax cheat!
