(CNN)The US reported at least 69,000 new Covid-19 infections Friday -- the most in a single day since July -- amid an alarming nationwide rise in cases that experts say marks the start of a fall surge.

On July 29, the US reported more than 71,300 infections, about two weeks after the country's peak daily case count of more than 77,000. That summer surge eventually waned, and daily averages dipped to a little more than 34,300 by September 12. But now, the country is averaging more than 55,000 new cases daily over the past week -- up more than 60% since mid-September's dip.

Hospitalizations are climbing nationwide. And they'll likely be followed by a rise in daily Covid-19 deaths, says Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health.

Researchers from the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation project more than 2,300 Americans could be dying daily by mid-January and a total of more than 389,000 people could die from the virus in the US by February 1.

On Friday, at least 10 states reported their highest one-day Covid-19 case total since the pandemic's start: Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming, according to Johns Hopkins.

1. Going to share this.

Thursday our Niece had to put her father in a convalescent care facility because of pneumonia and clots forming in his lungs. Covid is now doing a number on Rural Minnesota big time. The local ER Docs found a facility some fifty miles away that had a opening and saftey measures in place in order that he would not be exposed to Covid. But,he will be transferred to a Care facility later that is closer to his home when his pneumonia and clots are gone, and in that lies the real risk. His days of independence are done. Once your health goes to heck, and you are unable to fend for yourself,it gets real darn fast. Irony is,he has outlived every family member by fifteen years thus far.

As of yesterday, zero ICU beds available in Southwest Minny, all ICU patients are transferred to the Twin Cities or Mayo, again, all depends on open beds.

Sure looking like a Black Winter in the Midwest.
