It's pretty insidious how GOPrs are using the Fed. Judiciary to usurp democracy

It's pretty gawd damn diabolical.

They have known for decades that they have a demographic time bomb on their hands. Gerrymandering, voter suppression, even static population structures all have shelf lives, not to mention scheduled voting cycles for every 2,4 and 6 years.

The Federal Judiciary, on the other hand, doesn't depend on a democratic process, it has no clock. It's the interpretation of laws that have the most meaning, rather than their intent. Jurists can sit on the bench for decades, because of lifetime tenure. The wrong people on the bench can create untold harm.

The Republicans have used the long game to destroy progress and equity and to create a Judiciary that's more favorable to corporate power than to the needs of the people. Money and power over basic democracy.

The only way to rectify this is firm Democratic control of the other two branches for the next 20 years, along with a strong progressive activist alliance. Fixing this will not happen overnight, as the Republicans will strive to tie up Democratic presidents and Democratic congressional majorities in the courts forever.

A majority regressive Supreme Court will spell the death knell for everything that we've already built and intend to build at the behest of a majority of America.

Government by the rich and powerful, for the rich and powerful, for the duration... It's been the Republican Party's plan all along.

1. Absolutely!

This is why they keep hammering on whether Joe will do what they have already done AND continue to do.

Judges shitstain appointed should be removed imo.

2. Their plan is to perpetuate minority rule and exercise veto power by judicial fiat

3. This is the argument for expanding the court.

The republicans have politicized the Judicial branch of government. Through expansion, Democrats can neutralize the damage and restore the Judiciary to the non-political body it was intended to be.

4. Remember a few years back when the GOP rallying cry was against Democratic "judicial activists"?

I sure do, and like anything else, their gripe has always been political and never ethical.

They stand for nothing but power. They do 180's on everything, including stem cell research, nominating SC justices, national debt, deficit spending, you name it.

They don't believe a word they utter. They just mouth words that attack the opponent, regardless.

7. Never forget

that judges can be held accountable. I remind everyone that the movie Judgment at Nuremberg dealt exclusively with only the third of 12 trials of nazi war criminals, the so-called ‘judge’s trial.’ Interpretation of the law has consequences; judges, be warned.
