Early voting lines run long in Oak Cliff and Irving (TX) as voters say they seek to send a message
Juan Manuel Cantú, 71, said he was one of the first voters at Irving City Hall on Tuesday, the first day of early voting in Texas, because he wanted to cast his vote against President Donald Trump as soon as possible.
There are many things happening, like the virus and unemployment and everything, Cantú said. "It is something that we need this time to pass and we enter something better.
He waited 30 minutes along with his wife to vote and they were among dozens of people who stationed themselves at the entrance.
The state saw 541,862 people cast ballots in person on Tuesday.
That number combined with mail ballots already delivered to elections officials led to a record-smashing 907,054 votes cast once polls closed on the first day of early voting, which continues through Oct. 30.
