Its a big win for a city that is supposedly under siege.
According to the ranking, Portlands population toes the between an innocent playfulness and a shameless wild side.
U.S. News and World Report made no mention of the chaos and rampant homelessness usually favored by national news outlets, and instead focused on donuts and the World Naked Bike Ride.
Locals tend to be friendly and laid-back while maintaining a healthy work ethic, the report said. This, combined with Portlands emphasis on self-expression, has created a breeding ground for many independent businesses and startups.
Thats right, a breeding ground for many independent businesses and startups, not a breeding ground for communists and anarchists. How weird!

(31,622 posts)Houston gets a bad rap for these reasons:
Traffic
Environmental issues (refineries)
Zoning (it's pretty bad)
Storm vulnerability. (Both San Antonio and Houston have sucky weather overall. San Antonio's sucks more, but then Houston can have a major storm it takes toll on everyone. )

(18,402 posts)if donuts and naked bike rides are the metric for judging good places to live, I'm afraid these rankings are pretty idiosyncratic. Not really part of my everyday life. Indeed, if I ate Portland donuts (and they are good) on a regular basis, I probably would never want to ride naked.
