The week that Donald Trump lost the election

He might recover from catching the coronavirus. He can't recover from being himself

LUCIAN K. TRUSCOTT IV
OCTOBER 10, 2020

After the debate, he couldn't hide what an asshole he is. After he got sick, he couldn't hide how weak he is.

snip

In a bizarre video made at the White House just after his release from Walter Reed, Trump told people "don't be afraid" of the virus, and "don't let it dominate you." It was pure, unadulterated macho posturing and angry denialism, an obsession with appearance over reality, a version of "strength" in quotes that he seems to have absorbed from Cold War era dictators and Lone Ranger-style go-your-own-way westerns. You have the feeling that every day he wakes up and sees himself as George C. Scott in "Patton," standing alone in front of a gigantic American flag, growling a bunch of macho nonsense.

But think about it: He had a perfect opportunity to pivot and put himself on a course to win this election going away. Instead of standing on the balcony of the White House and saluting God-only-knows-what, Trump could have used the occasion of his COVID infection to change his tone. and, He could have kept his mask on and made a short video in which he told his fellow Americans, OK. I get it. I caught the virus, and it's a really bad thing, and here's what we can do together to put this thing away for good.

snip

Instead, he's troweling on the pancake makeup and telling lies about how long he's had the virus and how many more White House staffers have tested positive, and now he's refusing to debate Joe Biden in front of 80 million voters he absolutely needs to pull himself out of the hole he's dug. With only three weeks to go, this is the one we'll look back on as the week Donald Trump lost the election.

I'm getting a great deal of satisfaction in watching him descend into madness... fucking himself and the whole rancid GOP with every photo op...his Mussolini moment reduced to gasping for breath...a walking covid Petri dish infecting his loyal slobbering sycophants like a sniper picking off his targets...I want him where I can see him...

... like a shooting star his bedazzling light show will finally burn out weeks before November 3, 2020 and he will disappear into the pages of history where he will be repulsed and reviled.

His entire term has been about being reelected, from the inaugural on perhaps even during the transition. He would and has broken laws and norms in pursuit of his goal. His self-centered nature is so thinly veiled you can make the case that it is not veiled at all. With that in mind, you would think that he would make adjustments to get more votes. Instead, he has doubled down on everything that has cost him support. One could point to examples throughout the campaign but let's just look at these last few weeks.

The first debate. He seemed to be unusually sharp (drugs?) and could have won if he hadn't overplayed the interrupting. Then given a chance to denounce white supremacy, he gave them a slogan and marching orders instead.

The super spreader nomination ceremony. He employed his downplaying of the virus at his residence, allowing himself to get infected or being the source of all the infections. Not revealing his last negative test leaves that question and others open.

His infection. He could have used it to reshape the narrative with humility, either real or faked would suffice. Instead, he had to proclaim that he beat it, touting experimental drugs and treatments that regular people can't access. Funny how he is so private about his testing history but is very public about drugs he has taken for this and in the past.

The second debate. He had an opportunity to redeem his first debate performance but refused to do it virtually. He is passing on a chance to talk to tens of millions of viewers and instead will talk to the same 3 million viewers on Fox that he already has locked up. His reasoning is that "they can cut me off", something that would prevent him from repeating the interrupting thing that hurt him in the first debate with no effort on his part.

The stimulus. Getting checks in the hands of voters may have helped him, probably with his name put on them illegally again. In a tantrum he calls off negotiations to after the elections, and only if he wins. Backpedaling the same night had no effect.

Someone who deserves no chance to turn his campaign around had at least these 5 chances just this week and blew them all. He is nothing but self interest AND HE CAN'T EVEN DO THAT RIGHT!

and when the Wall of Vets stood up between the Mom's and the Brown Shirts, that sealed it! MTG Prediction, historians will wirte!

The Trump Nationalist Brown Shirt 2020 plan was to then go to Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore ya know those Lib run cities to force Law and Order which was his 2020 mandate but the dry-run body snatch experiment in Portland flew like a lead balloon even in conservatives eyes!

This most recent virus Casino play was done just to seal his cult base into a new mind meld thinking that "Herd Mentality" is a Powerful Bigly thing cause look how macho we are, but Heard Mentality was not a Thing to be known last Spring when the virus was still a hoax now was it?

You know you're in a Cult when the religion changes weekly!

I don't know how anyone can support him at this point. I hope this virus gets him.
