Westmoreland County mailing ballots today after hitting snag
Thousands of absentee and mail-in ballots that were supposed to be sent out earlier this week in Westmoreland County are scheduled to go out this morning to voters who requested them.
The Westmoreland County Election Bureau said a mass mailing company did not mail the ballots on time.
The elections office said it processed a large number of absentee and mail-in ballot applications that were submitted. The first batch was sent to the mailing company, Mid-West Direct, on Oct. 3 and the company was supposed to send those ballots out on Tuesday, but county officials said they did not get mailed out, Post-Gazette news partner KDKA-TV reported.
The county said that once Mid-West is able to catch up on the backlog over the weekend, they expect the process to run smoothly.
In Allegheny County, officials started mailing out ballots on Sept. 24.
