(12,712 posts)When Freud discovered cocaine, he thought it might be a viable drug to treat depression, etc. So, he took it for "research" purposes and was, of course, highly impressed
After a period of time, he became very inspired. One day he had been working on a paper for hours. When it was done, he handed it to his assistant and declared, with great certainty that it was possibly the most significant work of his career, so far.
His assistant, excited to read what Freud had wrote, slowly began to realize, to his shock and amazement, that it was not only not Freud's best work so far, but on the contrary, it was page after page of pure gibberish.
Needless to say, Freud changed his views on cocaine when he realized that.
Consider the effect that drugs can have on people, (including steroids) when it comes to assessing their own behaviors.
