'A Republican Party unraveling': GOP plunged into crisis as Trump abruptly ends economic relief talk

Vulnerable Republicans are beginning to distance themselves from President Trump’s dismissive response to the coronavirus pandemic and his dramatic termination of negotiations with congressional Democrats over federal economic relief, with the latest cracks carrying enormous implications for Trump and the party with just four weeks until Election Day.

Facing a political reckoning as Trump’s support plummets and a possible blue tsunami looms, it is now conservatives and Trump allies who are showing flashes of discomfort with the president, straining to stay in the good graces of his core voters without being wholly defined by an erratic incumbent.

For some Republicans, the 11th-hour repositioning may not be enough to stave off defeat. But the criticism, however muted, illuminates the extent of the crisis inside a party that is growing alarmed about its political fate and confused by Trump’s tweets and decision-making.

“It’s a Republican Party unraveling,” presidential historian Douglas Brinkley said. “They’re seeking to rid themselves of Trump at this juncture but realize they can’t quite yet. But they know his name is no longer kinetic on the campaign trail.”

How, pray tell, is said torching going to happen if what they do pleases the majority of American voters?

It's a hit I'd be willing to risk.

If an R Congress critter tethered themselves to PINO, and they're getting beaten, they have nothing to lose if they cut the cord to the fraud.
The hardcore is not voting D, and some in the middle might be ok as long as they're not locked into Trump.
Worrying about being primaries during the general election they may be losing, is plain stupid.
Not that there's a surprise there.

But, that would require a consensus and compromise with the Democrats. Which in the long game would be a win-win for them.

However, they are stupid and willfully ignorant. Cultishly believing the World still revolves around a revolting man.

And, Moscow Mitch.

Plus, GOPers were not going to pass another aid's bill, so this is acting.

Too little too late. Where the hell was the opposition for the last three and a half years? Vote all of them out.

business interests first in mind, will now rethink their positions of supporting these republican thugs. With the republicans, it's all about politics, not business in truth. Business is by far, secondary. People and their health and well being, is by far secondary, anything else except politics with the republicans is by far secondary. Party above Country. Party above the health and well being of this Country.

Think about it, if there happens to be any republicans floating around in DU land. If there are (and I wouldn't be surprised, and of course I want to extend my welcome to them and say, vote for the right choice, vote for someone who cares truly about you, Mr. Biden).

The fear mongering is enough. The hatred attempting to be stirred up by trump and his thugs is too much. This is literally Americans on Americans. Think about it, of what trump is doing w/ his ill mannered words, his ranting and raving, spitting all over everyone. The thug is finished and he knows it.
