Denim maker Levi's sales fall 27% despite robust growth online

Denim maker Levi Strauss & Co. on Tuesday reported a quarterly sales decline of 27% due to coronavirus pandemic-related store closures.

Its online sales soared 52%, as the retailer said it gained market share in women’s apparel. But those gains weren’t enough to offset losses elsewhere in the business, with net income tumbling 78%.

Still, Levi’s CEO Chip Bergh said the company’s results beat internal expectations, thanks to recent investments in building out its direct-to-consumer business.

Its shares were up more than 9% in after-hours trading on the news.

Clothes are worn out by laundering, not usually from wearing. If you are working from home, you launder less often.

... that have no business being worn in public. I'm getting much more mileage out of the jeans I've got.

I still wear my jeans on occasion. Today, in fact.

Yesterday, someone unexpectedly dropped off some stuff for me. I know this person in a professional setting. I felt bad for still being in my leggings but then I realized they were also in leggings. Usually we’d both be in slacks and sweaters or dress shirts. It was pretty funny.

3. I used to love Levi's because they offered so many different lengths.

But, they stopped doing that. It's difficult to get anyone to hem jeans correctly.
And, then, something happened to the fit. They are not flattering at all. I think
they went to cheaper manufacturers.
I stopped buying them.

Degree. Denim has been in steady decline since athleisure category took off. Now with everone home its even more casual like sweatpants. In a year they may see some life but everyone needs to leave home.
Apparel is down 54% from last year. Worst in retail.

Its a bloodbath of layoffs unfortunately in the industry. Levis will survive. A lot of designer labels and brands won't.
