Norm Ornstein is on to something here
Norman Ornstein @NormOrnstein 1h
Note to Schumer: here is what McConnell would do if situation reversed. 53 D’s, 5 or more quarantined. Keep Senate in session, bring in all Rs, replace you as leader, change committee chairs, direct Sergeant at arms to bar entry to any with Covid, reject SCt nominee. Just sayin. Link to tweet

9. listen to yourself
...acknowledging that republicans have held absolute power over the Senate, with little opportunity for Senate Dems to do more than object.
That Ornstein sees some daylight in republicans' actual infirmity should inform you about the intransigent nature of the republican majority. |

23. Possibly, but not in time for the election.
They want her on the bench for the election so that if there are any rulings that need to be made in Trump's favor, they will have a larger majority.

Just mentioning it is a grand movement. Norm Ornstein is a tireless crusader

20. Like mentioning McConnell's own words in 2016 over his head did all that good?
McConnell doesn't give a single shit about being shamed with his own hippocrisy.

12. An intruiging idea
I would absolutely love the ineffectual whining and yammering from the Republicans if Schumer pulled it off. Republican caterwauling about "norms" and "customs" and "courtesy" and "the world's greatest deliberative body" would be so much music to my ears.
Senate Republicans are owed nothing at this time. No courtesy, no consideration, no norms, no nothing. Shove Robert's Rules of Order right down McConnell's throat. |

53 minus 5 is 48, so the R’s would still prevail by 48-47.

24. This is still at committee level.
Republicans do not have a quorum at committee because 3 of their members are out with COVID-19. Dems can just show up for the regular process, not have a quorum, then the time runs out and the nomination has to go through the process again.

19. Well, Schumer isn't the Senate Majority Leader, so the situation can't be "reversed."
So, no, he can't change places with McConnell, and can't mirror McConnells actions...

that Rebuplicons like to ignore. Fuck decorum, reject unanimous consent on everything.

26. He's sayin if the roles were reversed...
If McConnell can't get a R majority because 5 are out w CV, Schumer could pull a fast one, a switcheroo, shut down stuff and all that senaty stuff....because that's what McConnell would do if he were in Schumer's shoes.

Push them to the breaking point, then break them. It's what needs to be done. That's not our way, you say. Well, good luck living under putins thumb from now on.
