Our governor has essentially declared that the Covid-19 pandemic is over. The rednecks in my area are rejoicing over the end of restrictions and will be celebrating in style. I guess the next thing the governor will do is close the hospitals so we will have no new hospitalizations from the pandemic. I have to buy groceries this morning, and since the governor has overridden the local mask ordinance it will be interesting to see how the customers and employees will be handling it. I live in a food desert and my options are limited without driving 40 miles for food.
What DeSantis has done is to further restrict the ability of people with preexisting conditions to be able to carry out their daily business without the risk of infection. All to prove the governor's political loyalty to the President. Thanks Ron.....
As I have not yet grown bored with protecting my life, I will continue to wear a mask, but because of the Governor's new policy, I expect to be treated poorly in public for doing so. I intend to fight back; I am tired of the crazy political shit.
I have never adorned my car with bumper stickers allying myself with political figures or policies, or supporting sports teams, but If I could find a sticker that said, "MY GOVERNOR IS AN IDIOT" I would proudly place it on my car.

(61,719 posts)Now the citizens of Florida will simply be sacrificed to the virus, they just don't know where or when. I am sure he will be protected though.
I live in Iowa and I do drive 40 miles for groceries to go to companies (Costco and unfortunately Walmart) that do mandate masks. Like you I go early in the morning.

(20,424 posts)It would be murder IF he made it against the law to wear a mask or protect yourself. I choose not to follow his suggestion, and anyone with half a brain there will do the same. Those that do are just idiots and spreaders.

(12,712 posts)Are they offering a living will and interment plan package with the vacations? One should also get a free gravestone or fancy cremation urn, all things considered.

(44,347 posts)some of them are bound to leave the state and spread the same Virus to other states. Some may be asymptomatic and won't wear masks. Their means of escape: cars. Let's say that a FL resident with Covid wants to go NYC. NY has a mandatory 14-day quarantine period. Screw it! Out-of-towners will be "accosted" at the airports, not at the tollbooths. They can't be subject to fines and penalties, etc. if they aren't caught.
Some might even leave their state to travel exclusively to Blue States to spread the pathogen. (I don't put anything past them.)

(17,269 posts)2 weeks and the hospitals are filling up again. One of the top 5 states in oldest median age, so the morgues start filling up as well. It's simply mathematical. His timing sucks for Rethugs, but apparently he's not smart enough to know it.

(17,269 posts)since July. A function of more people doing the right things or cooked data? Hard to say. While data is relatively easy to manipulate, overflowing hospitals are not. Hospitals are concrete, verses abstract numbers. People talk and overflowing parking lots, temporary wards and refrigeration trucks out back are impossible to hide. The media would be all over that. So, it's probably safe to assume infection rates have declined somewhat and hospitalizations in tandem.

But these people are either grossly ignorant or just don't care. Maybe both. Until mass vaccination, Covid-19 ISN'T GOING AWAY!!!!! Strip away just one layer of protection....mandatory masks....and infection rates are amplified, sometimes exponentially. So DeSantos is dumping tons of dry fuel on a smoldering fire and Donnie's greatest failure will explode in what might be the key state election wise, at the least opportune time for them. Their stupidity knows no bounds.
